I was wondering if this MOBO will work with this CPU right out of the box w/o needing a BIOS update?

MOBO:

CPU:

Thanks ahead of time for the help smile.gif

Can you provide me with some hard facts?

under the motherboard specs it states cpu types: FX / Phenom II / Athlon II / Sempron 100 Series

The AMD FX-6300 is a FX chip.

Shouldn't need a bios update.

From my understanding, if its not supported the CPU will just be stuck at idle speed until you flash the board, but it will be functional.

If this is the case, there is a bios revision that supports that cpu.

I did not know that if it isn't support it will still run, but only at idle speed. The input you have provided has help ease my fears a lot. Thank you for the input and help!!!

A lot of people have had problems with getting the 2nd gen FX series processors to work on non 990FX northbridge MOBOs, and even some only support the first gen versions. Not all information provide on newegg is correct, that's why I happen to be doing research, and OC.net was my final stop smile.gif Thank you for the help!!!

I was looking at the MSI site for this board....they have listed on 2012-10-18 Ver. 1.10 - Support AMD Vishera CPU.
I check the bios I was running and it is 1.11 dated 2012-10-31 ...I don't know why the version says 4.x.x. or whatever but here is a screen shot.

Here is a link to the MSI site with the BIOS info...hope it helps some.

I also have another question. Is there any kinda of major performance difference between mATX and ATX? I'm thinking about building a easily portable computer inside of a NZXT Vulcan for LANPARTIES
