Why is this card so expensive? - Page 2

you should read a bit more i said for single card setting and do you know anybody who use 6 screen for hobbies? and for gamming it wont do it on one card anyway , so you don't care about display port.
for the matrix you get a fat full card rad for the ln2 pot that can fit with most gpu block and it will do fine and be usefull for more then one card. as for the msi it s one of the best overclocker amonst the 7970.

i have very bad record on durability with HIS cards , this one is specially branded for that , from my experience with his i can't trust them for long life operation ( 4 cards from them, only 2 still work , while my old 15 years old saphire card stil save my ass when i have no other left).

Whether you disclaim single gpu or not doesn't change the purpose of these cards. It's why they freaking have more display ports.

If you play on one screen only there's no point to getting either of these cards. And the Lightning is not the best overclocking card since overclocking is random. Also MSIAlex has already stated on numerous occasions that besides binning for advertised clocks at stock voltage, chips are not binned for overclocking as it's practically impossible to do so w/o building the freaking card to begin with and by then chips cannot be removed from the card.

at the bottom of the product is says this..
Quote:
The best of the best.

HIS 7970 X, not only the HIS top class but also the best of the best among 7970 cards, achieves the number 1 world records in 4-way crossfire with 84669 on 3DMark Vantage and 29937 on 3Dmark 11, and won the ASRock Z77 Overclocking Competition on 3D mark.com.

The HIS 7970 X is based on the state-of-the-art 7970 GHz Edition chip with 1 GHz core and 6.0 Gbps memory clock, and features high quality components for full OC potential. With special features seldom seen on competitor's products, such as X elements, IceQ X², iTurbo, PowerTune with Boost and OC equipment, the HIS 7970 X raises the bar high with revolutionary improvement on cooling performance, power consumption and ease of operation. The special metal RIB on the card further strengthens the card significantly!

So that might be why...

i dunno but all the card at 1800 + clock speed on top firestike single card bench were nearly all MSI lightning ( before titan took the top), seems like a strange coincidence no ?
and you can need these card because if you game in higher res then 1080p , at which point every single gpu is just not enough, you better get the best single gpu if you don't want the hassle of CF or SLI.
If you have 6 monitor none of these card will do anyway so what's the point of having 6 port on one card ? these card are for gamming anyway what do you want to do on 6 monitor with one card ? only use is for CAD or SCADA then , but even there you don't need these kind of gpu.
i personally think one good 1440p or 1600p screen give better experience then 3 x1080p.

gpu bin is not the point here , better power circuits are ,...

top score for firestrike SINGLE card benchmark before all the spots were taken by titans. a lot of them were MSI at 1800+ gpu clock , im not saying they were the only one , but many other were not reconnized by 3dmark , still if i see a third to a half of the top score with a MSI 7970 , i can assume that it s good oc card that's all. And it's not news that MSI lightning are very good 7970, even if it s seems to bother you.

what 's your point, you are posting score with card that are not identified ? what does it prove ? when i speak about top it s the top 30 , i don t care about who is the first , i want to know which card are often on top,....
have you got a problem with msi ?

Really? You have no proof for your argument. You even admit that you cannot tell which card is which because 3dmark does not list the cards. Lmao, and here you are still arguing? LOL, whose the troll now?

Because it holds a record I assume + has some frills.

I feel sorry for this person on the review

"Ok so I am a computer noob! I bought this card after reading several reviews on other sites. The card benchmarks higher than many other near sized cards. So far after a brand new build I could not be happier with it. The card has handled every game I have thrown at it plus some light graphics editing. If you are looking for a technical review don't look here. I can tell you that with a decent sized case my computer does not get over 68 degrees at full run. I have the tower sitting 3 feet away and I don't have one complaint about noise. I do plan on experimenting with the eyefinity in the next few months but for now two monitors are plenty fast for me!"

Spent 2x what he should have because it "benchmarks higher" sigh...
