if you want a card with minimal feature and a black ugly cooler on a blue pcb (it make it twice as ugly ) and no backplate for this price , then go for it , but i still think for 80 buck less a matrix is really better deal with dual 100mm fans, better look, better oc features, backplate and extra rad for LN2-waterblock .
why would you buy this HIS since single card can't handle anything on 6 monitor anyway.
if you don't like these high end expensive card and think they are not worth it , *** are you doing in this thread then ?

It isn't a reference cooler. It's HIS Dual fan solution.
And reference cooler's are not bad. Don't know why people have so many issues with them.
If they make too much noise to you just get sound isolation materials for your case.

Yea I expected it'd be due to it having so many ports on the back. Thanks everyone, and no need for the fighting lol.

Looking up that vantage record, & it doesn't seem to exist. I did find the 3dmark 11 score, it was made by a guy who was banned for cheating...

I can't speak for heaven 3.0, benchers don't use that one, for firestrike single card, in the top 10 world records 8 are 7970, every single 7970 is msi lightning.
2 x gpu firestrike, being taken over by titan but the world record 2 x 7970 score, lightnings. Not sure which cards the 2nd place is,, 3rd is asus.

Not arguing, but when it comes to feeding the 7970s extra juice, the lightnings go farther than most.
I can still agree that for air & water cooling keeping the voltage & temps in check, you need luck with any card you choose. Great reference can beat unlucky lightning.

You're talking about extreme cooling and hwbot records which is exactly what the Lightning was designed for! If the wacky guy said if you are doing extreme cooling, get the Lightning because it is the best! I wouldn't argue against that, since its damn valid. However that wasn't the claim.

Use the Lightning outside of that very small space and it's no better than any other card. And in fact it's a handicap because of the single DVI! It kills the end user with a greater than 1200P panel because one has to blow another 100 bucks for a DL DVI to mDP adapter unless you dropped the premium on a panel with DP built-in.

I do agree with that. The lightning is more expensive, & when getting one you still have to hope luck is on your side or you can end up with an air cooled lightning that can't beat a good reference card.

MSI dropped the ball with the whole single dvi thing. As much as I like my lightning I do have a 1440p monitor & wish they had put some thought into the outputs.

Looking at my above post I failed by looking at the firestrike records. You did say firestrike extreme where MSI really failed to deliver... redface.gif
