[CNET] Internet tax proposal up for a vote in Senate this week - Page 20

You cannot compare Northern Europe to America. We have different ideologies, different tax codes, different budgets, and different expenditures. We cannot model ourselves through Nordic countries because we are simply not Nordic. There is almost zero trickle down it "re investment" into the public. 60-80% of the altaxes we pay go towards completely different purposes. Like costly FTA agreements. Hence why many are reluctant to pay taxes. We do not whine about government waste or entitlement, both of which are complete fictional. We whine about not benefitting from the majority of the Cent we pay, whereas when dealing with private institutions we get 100% of what we pay for.

Secondly States can issue bonds. The Fed doesn't need to authorize anything. The Fed is there to create or restrict money and thus, inflation. This has nothing to do with the Government's ability to issue bonds on any level.

Thirdly the upper bracket needs to be penalized heavily for avoiding taxes. Those who own 80% of the wealth, should provide 80% of the revenue if "fair is fair" as Republicans love to wipe their lovely white egos all over that phrase, disregarding the fact that most of them were born into it/commit tax fraud on a regular basis. So yeah, why the hell should I fork over 10% of anything I buy on top of the Income tax? It's the consumers who drive the majority of the economy, the producers do nothing, they merely adapt to the market. We need to give American Consumers more purchasing power if you want to get out of this recession hellhole. Doing things slow and rapidly increasing money supply just gives the market more time to adjust for the supply shocks, which is the exact opposite of what you want to do.

America will fall gracefully from its Hegemonic position. Also the quip about giving the consumers purchasing power brings up a good point, but we are nowhere near that tipping point.

I have know idea how this thread got so hostile but here is 2 more cents worth. Every time taxes come up with a liberal and I mention less taxes and smaller government there arguement assumes I, like most conservatives want no taxes and no government and it's not true. Of course we need roads, defense a security blanket for those who really need it but that's not the issue. Government in the US has gotten out of hand, way to big, way too expensive and wasteful. If you just had the interest we pay on the money we borrow we could run a lot of countries around the world. Everyday we trade freedom for free stuff and in the proccess we mortgage our chidren and grandchildrens future, it's selfish and stupid.

Maybe this tax on internet sales is not the end of the world but all it would do is take cash from one group of people and give it to another, it doesn't help the country or the people, poor or rich. We have to realize that everyone would love free healthcare, secure retirement, perfect roads but compared to the rest of the world we live much better than most and are throwing it away on some utopian ideal that we can all live in a perfect world by taking from one and giving to another. What ever happened to hard work and earning your lifestyle. I know welfare recipients that live better than me and I work my ass off and can't afford health care and can't get it from the company I work for because I can't buy it across state lines. How dumb is that? We are killing our middle class and shrinking it at the same time. I will never beleive that more taxes are a good thing, EVER !!

I would be down for a 5% flat net tax it would go straight to the fed.

That's cheaper than most state sales taxes.

I'm at least one person that this would be true for.

read all my posts in this thread instead of cherry picking a few. i explain a lot of my arguments a lot more in-depth in other posts

not all of my responses were sarcastic, my earlier one's went more in depth. but it's harder to take someone seriously when they basically argue for radical anarchy/libertarian idealism

I'm not so sure about that. My Newegg items all still ship from California. Also, Washington state passed a state law regarding internet sales taxes, which is why I believe this happened.

Why involve the federal government in something the states can do and already are doing? If the states can tax internet interstate commerce, what is the role of the federal government in this arena?

Just this December, before I could buy the new parts for my new rig, I was required to enter my Zip code. The moment I did so, our roughly 10% sales tax popped up. I'm a King County resident.

Amazon sent me an email telling me the taxes I owed my state this year for the products I bought last year. I lost it before I filed my taxes though.

Also brick and mortal places are loosing sales because of people like me shopping online instead of in stores to save money. I honestly agree there should be state taxes. I think taxes should be paid to the state where the seller is located and in the state where the buyer is located. Basically split the tax money between the two states. Also, if there was online taxes, some items I would start buying in the stores again to get them faster.

Just keep the damn Federal government out of it! Anything they touch goes to hell, just look at history.
