Hyper threading?

Thread Starter
First of all, i'm brand new to this site... so hello all.

I recently upgraded to a pentium 4 3.06 ht.

Problem is although all is well from the motherboard side of things.. windows (xp pro) doesn't reconise the HT part of the chip, when i check performance there is only one window for the CPU and no HT window..

Secondly...
I'm constantly trying to over clock this chip... but no joy. I've read through all the guides, but no cigar.

As soon as i increase the fsb speed from 133.. the system fails to restart then starts again on the second boot, only to have changed the speed back to 133??

Any advice much appreciated

I've never had a hyperthreading P4 before. From what I know, the motherboard has to officially support hyperthreading.

What kind of chipset does your motherboard have?
(I.E. VIA, nForce)

This could answer your overclocking problem, and hyperthreading problem.

Thanks for that guys.

Ye its a p4 3.06 HT. My chip set does support it, it an sis 661fx chip set.
I have been through the guide above, but no joy. its definetly enabled in the bios. I have downloaded the Intel HT diag program, and it detects its there, but its not functioning in windows?? (xp pro service pack 2)?

Again thanks guys

Okay make sure you have the Performance manager enabled to see both cores

Hmm, got to love intels, lol

SIS are not known for reliability/overclockablity so i would not worry to much about the HT for now. There is very little performance increase with it in the first place since it's just a emulated core
