If he can see the option to enter safe mode than the HDD is both detected and attempting to boot, as the advanced startup screen is already past post and part of the Windows loading phase..

Towards getting memtest, use another computer and browse to:

http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

once you have it, either burn it to a disk or make a bootable usb. Then select it from boot option menu and run the test.

If you have another computer download the Ultimate Boot CD and run memtest 86+ and a hard drive test. Chances are one or the other is gone. Most likely could be some bad sectors on the hard drive causing windows to crap out.

Well it is detecting the MBR...it might not be detecting the whole drive. Just a nice check to to.

Memory errors will typically let you get part way into a boot before giving you the BSoD...not being able to read the OS files from the drive is what typically stops a boot in my experience.

Ok cool! Im running the Memtest now on the other computer with the BSOD, I will wait to see what happens.

What should i be waiting for? Will there be a file or name or something that tells me at the end of the test what is wrong? Im just asking ahead of time so I know what to look for when its all done running the Memtest smile.gif Thanks everyone so far!

what about your HDD mode? Was there a power loss? Maybe it got hanged from IDE to AHCI or visa versa, it could also be your PSU, i fyou have a digital multimeter you can use that and see if the PSU is the issue.

Just let it run through the test 2-3 times, may take a few hours, and if there is any errors let us know. There is a count in the top right and individual faults should display in the bottom.
