Rigs for friends

Ok so two things
PS: Every dollar amount is in Canadian $$

First Thing (Click to show)
My friend bought these http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/Lesq
CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Canada Computers)
Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990FX ($150.00)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($54.86 @ Newegg Canada)
Storage: Sandisk 64GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($61.58 @ Newegg Canada)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.00 @ Vuugo)
Video Card: Gigabyte 7950 OC ($245.98)
Case: Rosewill ARMOR-EVO ATX Full Tower Case ($100.78 @ Newegg Canada)
Power Supply: Antec EarthWatts Green 650W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($79.16 @ DirectCanada)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer ($17.06 @ DirectCanada)

Total: $978.41

and he just wants someone to confirm what I told him about it being a good build.

Second Thing (Click to show)
My other friend's laptop died and he was going to purchase a pre-build from the local computer shop. The computer shop tried to sell him an $800 system with an FX-4100 and a 7750 with 1333Mhz ram, and tried to tell him it was fast. Thank god I was there to tell the guy to go F himself and stop selling half A hardware. Anyways to make a longer story short, he wants me to come up with a $600 rig and an $800 rig. It will be mainly for media (movies, youtube videos, etc) and maybe a little for games (I can guarantee that he will start gaming the more he's on it) and it will be run off his 32" TV in his room along with his surround sound. The surround sound comes from the TV so there isnt a real need for a soundcard (but if you can get the adapters and sound card withing budget I won't argue). He wants a mid tower case, he saw the HAF 922 in store and nearly creamed his pants, so something with a cool, kind of goddy look to it would be best.
Now I have never really done a media PC which is why I ask for help. Also 1 more thing, he is a tinkerer and will probably dip his hands into overclocking.

Thanks in advance!

or something like this:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/LeS7

DOH! I ment to put an SSD in there...you could pickup a cheaper GPU and get the SSD...and apparently I forgot to change the Case :-/...ok I think I fixed it now
