Aftermarket cooling on a stock HP motherboard.

Hi, I have HP Pavilion p7-1154 that I've heavily modified for better performance. What I want to do is overclock the APU further than I've already done. For that I will need an aftermarket cooler. The deal with this is that I have an AMD FM1 socket A8-3870k unlocked APU on the stock HP motherboard which doesn't have a typical AMD mounting pattern. It actually has the mounting pattern of an Intel socket 1156! Which is 75mm x 75mm, definitely not an AMD pattern!!

Here is the dilemma - if I use an Intel socket 1156 mounting will it be the right height for the correct fit (pressure on the APU) on an AMD FM1 socket APU?

Here are my specs.
*HP AAHD3-HB (Hibiscus) made by Pegatron (ASUS) motherboard
The motherboard BIOS does not support overclocking or AMD Dual Graphics
*AMD 3870k APU (@ 3000 OC’d to 3300 using AMD OverDrive)
*Radeon 6770 HD GPU
*Silverstone 500w 80Plus Bronze Modular PSU
*16GB Corsair 1600 DDR3 RAM
*2x Crucial M4 265GB SSD’s in Stripe (RAID 0)
*1 WD Velociraptor 600GB 10,000 RPM HDD

Thank You for any ideas or comments,
Mike

Honestly you shouldn't really need an aftermarket cooler yet since you can only oc with overdrive. I would just wait to buy one with a new motherboard.

Plus Bios overclocking is way better

Thank You for your response,

Right now I am obsessed with getting as much as I can out of this MB. So trying to use an Intel 1156 heatsink on an AMD FM1 processor makes an interesting project for me. As far as a new MB is concerned, I had cancelled an order for an ASUS F1A75-M PRO R2.0 FM1 motherboard because the front panel connectors for HP would not fit and much of my software is linked to this motherboard.

I plan on doing a complete new build in the near future. AMD will be my choice. All I need to do is decide on the kind of build I want ( i.e. An A10 5800k Trinity APU or an FX-8350 Vishera CPU).

I wouldn't get an Apu, they are meant for running a system without an extra gpu and doesn't offer great graphic performance
