Honestly the best thing I've ever done for reducing hdd noise is setting it on top of a piece of acoustic foam, sitting right on the bottom of the case.

I cut all my honeycomb rear grills and replace them with basic wire grills, with decent results.

A top intake fan can be beneficial if you're careful with placement. However I've noticed slightly higher GPU temps from it, possibly from it preventing warm air in the lower half of the case from rising properly. Case by case could vary.

Wow those are a nice idea too bad they don't work with closed corner fans like yate loons (looks like it may be time for new fans or more hack saw)

Do you still screw it into the hard bays or is it just sitting on top of the foam?

That was my plan everything i have seen basic wire grills only result in less then 2% increase in noise and decrease in airflow over no grill at all compared to honeycomb which is about a 8-10 increase in noise and decrease in air flow.

Yeah its something i am gonna have to try currently my video card runs quite cool with no side intake fan or bottom fan.
