Learning Windows Phone 8

Title says it all. I went from an iPhone to a Lumia 920. Things seem very different and confusing to me. Is there a way to make WP8 easier and more user freindly? Can the music player be replaced? Any easier way of closing apps?

LOL. NO! But I felt like I had to do something to get peoples attention. On a side note, I absolutely love the lumia 920 as a phone, sexiest thing ever. Certain things about WP8 I really dig, others I can't stand. Just trying to get some tips from other users on how I can get the most out of it and really enjoy it. I'll give it til the 18th of april, cuz thats when I have to decide if I will keep it or trade it in.

Unfortunately it's pretty limited. As far as I know, you are stuck with the music player. I had a lumia for about 8 months went to Android and never looked back. I couldn't be happier. I agree with you that there were some things I liked about it but the bad things were just too much and far outweighed the good.

I have the 920 as well. There are some things I absolutely love about it, and some that frustrate me. I have to remind myself that this will be there no matter what phone I have.
I went from a BB Bold (8900) to an atrix, to this 920.

My wife went from over 4 years of iPhone to the 920. She really liked the 920, but her company got bought out and the new one only allows work email to be obtained on an iPhone. So she went back to the iPhone. She said there were some things that she likes better on the W8P and vice versa.

I, myself, am going to see what the next wave of Android devices brings to the table. If I think I will like them more, I will buy one. Right now I have my eyes set on the one M7.

I do like the screen on the 920. The camera is incredible, and the battery life is really good. The GPS works great, and the keyboard for typing is by far the best I have used on any phone platform. I am able to type on it almost as fast as I could on my BB.

At the same time I miss some of the apps (mostly mobile banking and such) that I had on my Android device. There are also a couple of little things that bother me about the interface of the W8P. At the same time, there are some things that I like more too. Every device is going to have these pluses and minuses.

My personal suggestion, is find the top 5, or so, things that are most important to you in a phone. Find the platform that does that the best and go with it. They are all solid devices now. It isn't so lopsided like it was 5 years ago.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks Shlunky, nice name btw.
I agree with you about the camera on the 920, incredible. I can take outdoor nightime photos without it looking like a took a photo in the middle of snoop doggs house amidst a cloud of smoke. The screen and the build quality feel amazing too. I found out one of my probs the other day was that the phone refused to let me upload pics to fb the way I did on my iPhone which was signing in, tapping the photo option, choose photo, etc etc. The only way I can upload them on this phone, is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much faster and simpler. Just tap the option on the photo and BAM!
I do miss the holding down your finger on the screen to save an image though, but not a deal breaker.
I don't like the music player, just to weird and confusing and wish I could swap out. But I'm starting to get back into pandora again so for the time being it's fine.
I wish there were an easier way to close out apps than having to hit the back button a bazzillion times, but this is not a deal breaker either.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the tile system, best and most fun feature ever!
This phone seems to have more connection issues than my iphone had.
I love the ability to decide what I can access from the lock screen.
Is there a way to search through a video better online than the skip buttons? This annoys me. Also, half the time videos have a problem playing, whereas on my iphone it was fine.
I think I may have some sort of a connection problem, trying to find out, but between school, my kid, wife, and my me time it's tough.
Anyway, those are some of the things that annoy me and that I love about the phone. Overall I love the physical phone, so beautiful (I have a white one) I would feel like I was hiding it if I put a case on it, but I know that I should. The phone has a nice weighty sophisticated feel to it, I really want to learn and like WP8 just so I can keep the phone itself. Camera is very important to me since I have a kid and I can't carry the expensive Canon DSLR around with me everywhere I go, hell even at home it seems like the battery in that thing doesn't last too long until it needs another charge.

You and I seem to have many of the same higher priorities in a phone. The camera is one of the main reasons I wanted to look at this phone as well. I too have children and we are always taking pictures of them.

My phone is a white one as well. I absolutely LOVE the asthetics of it. I ended up putting a case on my phone for the simple reason I wanted to keep from getting scratches all over it. My personal suggestion is to go look at wpcentral.com accessories store. I purchased a few things from there and I have to say I was shocked at how good the service is. They ship the items out super fast. I purchased these two cases on mine....

White Body Gaurdz carbon fiber case

and

White Incipio FAXION case

I haven't actually put the carbon fiber case on my phone, because I wasn't 100% sure I was going to keep the phone. I LOVE the idea of that though. It is an actual piece you wrap around the phone and put the jell on afterwards to harden it. I would love the feel and look of it. My only hesitation is that if I don't keep it, I don't want to lock the next person into using that case.

If you decide you want it, I would make you a deal on it as it is still just sitting there.
I do really like the incipio case as well. It is the closest I have been able to find to the actual feel of the phone itself while providing protection from scratches at the same time.

I have more to say, but have to go so I will hit you up later.

Looked at both the cases, the carbon fiber one is sooooooooooooooooo sexy. I love that case. How did you feel about the two? Is the carbon fiber one permanent? I am starting to lean towards keeping the phone, I have until april 19th I think to decide, still a ways out. Just trying to play with the damn thing daily and see what my reaction is. If I were addicted to FB the phone would be a no-brainer keeper, this phone is so wired into fb integration.
