This is what we call tight timings 8-8-8-24-28 and 7-8-7-24-28 thumb.gif

The tighter they are, the better = more performance if you get me, even though you might not notice the performance change until you get your Northbridge at least 3000MHz smile.gif

^ that, plus with looser timings it will help you stabilize your OC for less crashes if you're fudging with the FSB.

Btw I found you two links showing some mutli gpu scenarios with AMD and Intel one has a 1100T (with SLI 470s) while the second has a 8320@4.8 (with 7970 CF) which is quite a bit faster than your thurban @ 3.8

Here and Here

Please note They have zero NB OC on the 1100T which would help a pretty good amount but notice the difference in avg and minimums in a few of those games. Like I said though you should be fine if you can OC the NB and don't worry too much about it until your next upgrade. thumb.gif

In a wast majority of games the min fps will be due to the GPU even if its paired up with relatively slow CPU and that goes double when playing at higher resolutions.

Only in a few games like StarCraft II, Plantedside 2 or Wow does the CPU become a bigger concern. Even then a Thuban running at 3,8 is no slouch.
.

I guess I feel a little better about my Thuban in that case. I do notice some serious lag during Starcraft 2 HOTS- I will be playing smooth until many units are on screen... Lag begins. I have a feeling this lag is CPU related. I am curious if my performance in SC2 will increase after the OC.

I hate games that are CPU intensive. Guild Wars 2 was this way as well. If only games optimized for multi core...

Yeah SC2 can definitely put the hurt on even the best of CPU's and while the engine is somewhat multi-threaded it still heavily relies on a single main thread for a lot of the stuff. Supposedly HOTS should have better load balancing but going by what you said it does not seam like that big of an improvement.

Thanks for the benchmarks! I hope that "pretty good amount" is actually a pretty good amount! I look forward to testing this...

WOAH those benchmarks are very interesting. The performance is definitely heavily reliant on the CPU. It's sort of an eye opener there. I wish more games were optimized better. I appreciate the post.

the one thing to kepe in mind also is that nvidia gpus really prefer a fast CPU. I remember hard did an article about it and there was a noticeable improvement when the cpu gets faster. Was... interesting i thought.

Personally.. i think you will be fine after OC'ing the NB.
