Looking for a good development laptop

Thread Starter
Hey OC! I have an acer aspire 3830-TG, but recently I've been in the market for a good development laptop because this one isn't cutting it for me. I want to mainly use this book for programming (Java, Python, PHP) using mostly eclipse (probably doesn't matter but I thought I'd mention it!)

The laptop I have right now is pretty good, but the 13" screen and terrible keyboard layout is what really kills it for me. I'm looking at picking up a good 15" laptop.

Here is what I'm shooting for:

15"+ screen (mandatory)
Standard US keyboard layout (mandatory) http://it.flexinet.com.au/Bits%20and%20Pieces/Keyboard/Keyboardfiles/keyboard.gif
Numpad is optional
At least 4GB RAM
Discrete graphics are optional
Sandy bridge dual core or greater (Sorry AMD!)
Doesn't have to have a harddrive (I will be swapping in my current SSD in the newer laptop)
Preferably under $1000

Edit: I should be mention that I'll mainly be using Ubuntu.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be really glad to hear them!

Thanks!

Go for a second hand Lenova they have such nice keyboards smile.gif

What you should do.. buy something with a nice keyboard.. and you are good to go. Development PC's are always over rated unless you are running vm's I got my development laptop for like £250 on ebay smile.gif Q9000 4gb ram 15" screen... and lashed some SSD in and it's amazing.
