as british bob said, the origin is probably to do with the fact that they look a little like potatos
I think a joke was once made on one of the earlier dev streams and it stuck.
From the wiki:
Orokin Catalysts are often referred to by players as 'blue potatoes' (as opposed to Orokin Reactors, called 'golden potatoes'), or in some cases, simply 'potatoes.' This may have originated from the devs, who have occasionally referred to them as potatoes.
Not too bad. I just focus on spamming dat heals. If no one need them it's got some decent damage with reckoning. I think it would be a waste of a potato. I now need some slots for the 3 frames I have built ready to collect. Looks like I am off to my lvl 11 Loki for a bit then. Edited by BritishBob - 4/3/14 at 9:49pm

Personally didn't care for oberon, still leveled it though. I found his abilities to be... lack luster out side of his 4th ability, but even that looses its utility in higher tier games. If you like his healing factor or prefer the support type role, check out trinity if you haven't yet. if you need help farming her or a taxi to her let me know I'll help you out (IGN: Ichino) As for getting potatoes check alerts and invasion mission. There used to be a time when T3 voids dropped Catalyst but that was changed when mag or ember prime was added.
UPDATE 13: DARK SECTORS
Posted on 08/04/2014 - 16:54
Update 13: Dark Sectors is live and ready for action!
Take the upper hand with new fighting styles in Melee 2.0, build Solar Rails to lay claim to outposts on the Solar Map in the Dark Sectors and harness the power of the Hydroid Water Frame.
See what our Devs have to say about this huge update here:
There’s so much in this update we can’t list it all but here are some of the highlights:
NEW WARFRAME: Hydroid!
Rising from the ocean depths, HYDROID harnesses the power of water with a devastating effect.
HYDROID 's powers include:
Tempest Barrage - Calls down a barrage of liquid fury
Undertow - Become a water trap and drown unsuspecting enemies
Tidal Surge - Crash through enemies in a ferocious wall of water
Tentacle Swarm - Summon a watery creature from the deep to wreak havoc
MELEE 2.0 - Your melee weapons have never been so powerful. Fully equip your melee weapon, add Combo Chaining, Equip State and Stance Mods and realize an entirely new melee system for your Warframe.
DARK SECTORS - Tenno are building Solar Rails to bring back the light to the Dark Sectors throughout the Solar System. Ready your Clan and build Solar Rails to lay claim to these lost outposts. Collect Tribute from everyone who uses your rail but stay alert, Tenno -- other Clans can try to overtake your Sector.
ATTICA - Quickly fire off a volley of deadly bolts with the Attica Repeating Crossbow.
NAMI SKYLA - Like the surge and crash of storm waves, a master of the Nami Cutlass and Skyla Dagger turns these two separate weapons into one fluid attack.
NIKANA - The Nikana Katana reintroduces a lost Tenno blade and with it another fragment of the old ways.
NEW PRIME WEAPON - Lex Prime joins the ranks of Elite Prime weapons.
MELEE WEAPON ATTACHMENTS - Five new SUGATRA Melee Weapon Attachments display the martial finesse and skill of its master.
NEW WEAPON SKINS - The Shock Camo Skins' bold patterns are designed to confuse the optical processing of both robotic and organic enemies.
NEW ENEMIES - Vay Hek's Prosectors and Guardsmen pose new threats. Find the elemental damage type they're vulnerable to and take them down!
NEW SENTINEL SKIN - Add the Para Skin to your Carrier -- The perfect companion for the new Hydroid Warframe!
EXPANDED TILESET - Explore this new Grineer Shipyard Tileset in the Ceres planetary region.
DOJO CUSTOMIZATION - Ten new Dojo Rooms are now available!
- You will receive an in-game message from the Lotus that includes a Frequency Triangulator. This gift will be essential in locating Councilor Vay Hek.
- Visit the Shipyards on Ceres. Here you must Defeat Councilor Vay Hek's Prosecutors. Beware, Tenno! They are unlike any enemy you have fought before. Each Prosecutor is vulnerable to a primary elemental type (fire, ice, toxin or electrical damage) and you must use this to your advantage. For greater success, team up with other Tenno using multiple elemental types.
- Some of the Prosecutors carry coordinator fragments that will drop once you have defeated them. There are four fragments: Frequency Delta, Frequency Gamma, Frequency Kappa and Frequency Omega. You'll need a certain number of each to use in conjunction with the Frequency Triangulator. This will help you determine Vay Hek's location.
- Find Vay Hek and take him down!
Successfully defeat Councilor Vay Hek and complete the mission to receive one of these rewards:
- Hydroid Helmet Blueprint
- Hydroid Chassis Blueprint
- Hydroid Systems Blueprint
