7970 ref in xfire or GTX690? - Page 6

I would choose the 7970 over the 690 due to limited vram and bandwidth. Imo, its not worth it especially for how much it cost and that its already bottle necking at the latest games. Also there is micro-stuttering not sure if your looking for an single card setup overall depends on your needs you will be happy either way.

For anyone saying 2gb of vram of the GTX 690 isn't enough for Crysis 3, I have no problem running max settings on a 1200p monitor.

If it's still the same deal as in a 7970 plus $250 for the GTX 690, I'd do it in a heart beat. Unless you have a couple of golden(1300MHz +) 7970s that are under water.

Then I might stick to the 7970s!tongue.gif

i would get the gtx690, prob wont need to overclock it much at all...the 690 also has faster ms frames response time than the 7970s which helps eliminates stuttering from occuring because the frames are consistant with less time in between each frame...

What are these SLI issues and microstutter everyone likes to talk about,

I'd only go with the 7970's if I were watercooling them. I like my machine quiet biggrin.gif

He's gaming at 1080p, he's fine on VRAM either way. He can get the 690 for his card and $250 or save up another $430 and wait for it to get back in stock. Please the the original post.

Main reasons I'd take a 690:
1. Single card
2. Quieter than two cards
3. Roughly same FPS
4. Awesome deal
5. Sexy as hell shroud wink.gif (smallest amount of fanboyism)

Main reasons I'd save up if I had a 7970:
1. I was gaming at way higher resolutions
2. I'd be worried about my VRAM at said resolutions.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to post more reasons for a second 7970 as I was running out of ideas of scenarios. You are gaming at a pretty much standard resolution so I can't really see you ever needing more VRAM than that.

Small problem is 1080p with you CPU it not going to give you 120 fps. Almost in every game the CPU will hold you back.
