That GTX690 (pulled from a Alienware Desktop) is a beast card and for 250 and my card, make it a nice deal

or

Buy another 7970 and piece of mind on parts failure.

You mean it doesn't grow on trees?

The options you have have already been discussed in great detail. What else is there for people to feed you?

Personally I would get the 7970. I have been with AMD/ATI for quite some time but when I built my 2013 intel rig I went with a GTX 670 and must say compared to AMD nvidia's drivers are not great anymore sadly. I have a 2 Gigabyte GTX 670's SLI and no matter how I connect my monitors I can't get a 3x Surround + 1 to work. Following the guide from Nvidia alway ends up with the monitor connected to the DisplayPort disabled in favor of the HDMI which is connected to the 50" Plasma. With AMD I just plug all of the monitors into the primary card and select which monitors are part of the Eyefinity not so with Nvidia in SLI.

It has gotten really frustrating instead of having my 3x Asus 27" monitors in Surround and the 50" Plasma independent it sets up 2 of the Asus and the 50" plasma leaving the one connected to the DisplayPort separate. After 2 hours of connecting different cables in different ports I gave up and am about ready to sell these things and go back to AMD. People complain about AMD's drivers but they are much better than Nvidia anymore. Sadly there Windows 8 drivers for Surround is even worse you can't maximize to one monitor something that AMD has been able to do from day one with there Eyefinity setup.

If Nvidia could bother to solve these problems I think there hardware would be really good but as it is now it is just to frustrating to be enjoyable. I just do not understand the need to spread the monitors to both cards and specific ports when the second card is really just a slave it is something you do not need to do with AMD.

I dont think I will be using multi monitors, but who knows. I do play movies off this rig to our famliy tv.

I found the same card I have at Amazon, I might pull the trigger on.

If you ever decide to use a side monitor, keep in mind CFX only works in full screen. Meaning you can't game in windowed borderless in order to more easily access the side monitor. At least not if you want the CFX active.

Personally I found this to be extremely annoying when I had my 6970s.

I had the choice it would probably be GTX690.

All things considered the only problem i the 2GB vRAM. If you can live with that then you are good.

For you its cheaper and having 2 x HD 7970 in CF i would not do it unless its under water.

All things considered HD 7970s will be faster but at a cost, power consumption, noise, space, heat.

Just make sure to test that GTX690.

Considering you only have to trade your 7970 and an extra 250$ I would go with the 690. I have a crossfire 7970 setup its amazing and performance wise it is way better than a single 690 but they are very loud. Since you're only going to be playing at 1920x1080p a 690 will last you for a couple of years while being a lot more quiet than a 7970 crossfire and giving you the ability to upgrade later on as it only takes a single pci express slot. In conclusion in your situation I would go for the 690 unless you want to watercool your 7970 setup than I'd say go 7970 all the way! thumb.gif
