Yeah we aren't innovative in IT at all.

Without reading up on the subject I'm going to say that Australians did not invent Wi-Fi and I'm pretty sure I'm right. Woho.

Quote:
1992 – Wi-Fi – A method developed by CSIRO researchers used to "unsmear" radio waves that echo off indoor surfaces was patented.[68][69] This method has caused WiFi to be attributed as an Australian invention,[70] although the Wi-Fi trademark, under which most products are sold, is under the ownership of the Wi-Fi Alliance based in Austin, Texas.[71]

For the record I am South African born but I have lived in both NZ and Australia for the last 16 years, and these are just my observations.

Naming one invention is kinda pointless, every country will always have a stand out innovative thinker. The point I'm making is mainstream thinking, what is the majority of people doing?

Take for example Open Source, ANZ was very late to adopt open source compared to most countries. It was only when companies like Red Hat really established themselves as enterprise solutions that it started to gain momentum here.

really? c'mon mate, believe it or not some Americans work their asses off to make a living for themselves.

And i truly am yet to see it, With a lot of Safety laws and what not in place your jobs are probably a lot easier, Over here the safety laws are near non existent, In the last 3 months with a 12 person crew there has been nearly 40 potentially fatal accidents including collapsing ground, Rolled vehicles, Exploding gas lines and water contamination Most of which could be fixed if the parent company would give us the money to repair construction vehicles.

Just for the record I am a dual citizen currently residing in Australia, your working conditions sound somewhat illegal, you might want to call worksafe if you are that concerned.

Yes I was going to list this as another example. We are the biggest apple iphone fanbois around. While there are many android users these days, android adoption was very slow and only gained traction when android was very popular globally.

Another example, go to seek.com.au and see how many FreeBSD jobs there are. Now I'm not saying I am innovative because I run FreeBSD, I'm just saying we don't really run non mainstream systems here.

Why didn't you emigrate to America or some "forward" thinking country? If your into banking why not Switzerland? I just don't see why people leave a country (which is in a bad way, I work with 2 South Africans) and then bag their new country.
(forgive me if ranting, drinking paddy's day left over Jameson)

PS, I must be drunk, I'm agreeing with Raylene

We do earn more. I just wish it was the same percentage as the price difference. I'd be loaded. Might not be much good for companies having to pay interns $100k salaries though.
