[CB] Game Mods Get Hit With DMCA Notice From Six Strikes Policy - Page 2

This is so wrong on so many different ways ... It really is the corporate states of america.
How is it even possible that a company like NBC can accuse someone and it magically becomes the truth without proof.
Everybody better lawyer up cause now a days your guilty till proven innocent ... on your expenses.

Stupid idea, stupid law made by stupid people.

That's just nasty practices...can anyone give some background information on the game and the mod? The article doesn't really explain how this could possibly infringe copyright laws.

I love this part btw: "Any and everyone can get hit from this Six Strikes policy because...well, this isn't capitalism, land of the free, home of the brave or a free market, this is the Corporate States of America and if you aren't a rich douche bag, you're out of luck."

This is why I stopped buying games and have been playing free to play games like Star Conflict which allow me to play and if I choose, pay for more content. Plenty of F2P games out there and some are better than the crap EA and Activision put out. As long as they keep putting up these stupid rules and putting DRM on every game, I will not be buying.

Hate to rant, but this country is in the toilet and keeps getting worse and worse. People say that the US is the best country in the world, but there are plenty of other places to live that are better. IMO, this entire government needs to be dissolved and every state should operate as its own country, just like the EU. The only thing that needs to be coordinated between the states is the military. Thats it.

Anyway, this is so wrong. I'm still glad my ISP isn't going along with this crap.

This isn't even a law. This is a policy agreement between the top ISPs in the country and the **AA groups. So there isn't even a way to really complain about it.

If you look around you will find that there are all sorts of reports like these. It truly seems that any large amount of uploading on a residential line will trigger this, even those that rent out static IPs. This was happening on day 1. As for who the "strike" is made on behalf of, from the chats I've been privy to it would seem that one is picked at random. The actual content of the uploading is not looked at. just the amount of raw data coming off your modem. So no encryption, or VPN, or proxy or whatever is going to protect you. I have three colleges that work primarily from home that have gotten warnings, and all they claim to be doing is uploading large data files over VPN to a server at the office. I am pretty quick to believe those guys, but I cannot in 100% faith make any claims that the people were not actually doing something "bad".

and on an odd note...I've been reading claims that running FTP servers have not been triggering anything. Regardless of how much or what kind of data was uploaded from it. It is like FTP is not part of the automated system.

Here is some more detail about the situation:

The notice, which we've included below (including all of the crappy formatting) claimed that he was using MediaFire to host "one of the following files: Downton Abbey, CONTRABAND (2012), GRIMM (2011), House M.D., MAN WITH THE IRON FISTS, THE, The Office." The "file" they claimed was one of those TV shows/movies was "Cantha Cartography Made Easy 2009.tpf" which is actually a game mod for Guild Wars.
