The clear choice is to mail them to me so I can put them to use in the PCs I'm building for a nonprofit organization I've started
I have been collecting lots of unwanted computers and parts, which I am refurbishing and using to build new computers which are donated to the local "battered women's shelter" to help these brave women to have a chance to get back on their feet and start a new life for themselves. Initially the computers go to the shelter but as more and more are built, I am giving them to women who are about to run out of time in their stay. The way the world is so Internet based anymore, I figure that if they don't have access to the Internet, their chances of getting a job are diminished even further. It's also a way to help them regain control over their lives, after having been controlled by fear and pain for so long.
I have been overwhelmed by the response, as initially it was just something that I was going to do here and there in my free time, but I already have a second person working with me and I can't keep up with the need for parts (hard drives are the worst, always running out). I am even in talks with a local ISP who are seriously considering providing each of these women with up to a year of free DSL or Cable Internet access!
I figure that if I have a talent or skill, it's worthless unless I use it to help others. I am even trying to get "Learn Computer Basics" classes started so as to provide these women with a new skill set, however limited it may be.
