Future of nVidia following new generation consoles

Hey guys

I have been doing some thinking. It has been rumored that both the new Xbox and PS consoles will sport AMD APUs with Radeon graphics.

I have a theory, that if it holds water, may spell some tough times for nVidia. As all of you know, most games today on PC are ports from consoles, with the exception of a select few which are designed from the group up for PC primarily. Should both consoles utilize some form of Radeon graphics, surely these ports to PC will favor AMD Radeon based desktop systems and possibly even CPUs?

If this is true, what do you guys think will happen to nVidia as well as what you think may ultimately be the outcome of people's experience with nVidia products / based desktop systems? Will Non-AMD Radeon systems always perform worse? Will people experience actual problems with games as a result of this (eg crashes, errors, artifacts, stuttering, lag and other issues)?

Let me know what your thoughts are.

PS: I am not a fan-boy of either AMD or nVidia as I support both. I usually evaluate at the time of graphics card purchase, who has the best bang for buck medium- to high-end card at that point in time. My current card is a GTX 670, though my two previous cards were Radeons.

There was a thread almost identical to this one a while a go. I will say here what I said there. It wont make much of a difference what the consoles run as both AMD and Nvidia cards will continue to push for new tech.

In a few years AMD cards will be as different from the consoles as Nvidia cards and both will be massively more powerful. Even now games that are Gaming Evolved (AMD sponsored) run fine on Nvidia cards and The way its meant to be played games (nvidia sponsored) run fine on AMD cards.

Even despite the sponsoring there are evolved games that run better on green and TWIMTP games that run better on red.

The Xbox 360 itself uses ATI graphics so I don't see how a port from a next gen console would be any different from what we are already getting. Other than games exclusive to the PS3 I'd wager most games in recent years were designed with the 360 in mind first and ported to PC/PS3. Besides, Nvidia seems to be so focused on the mobile market now they won't be suffering due to any performance issues that could come about (although I seriously doubt it) as you believe. No offence, just my $.02

If it were the other way around, then I'd be worried. AMD needs the consoles financially and they need the close contacts with game developers. They also seem more committed in nonproprietary API's than Nvidia.

I believe the new consoles all-around are a good thing for all PC gamers.

Wont be a problem imo.

Those of us that spend money on the higher end GPU's and CPU's that Nvidia and Intel make their money on will likely be aiming for games desgined for PC's. I very rarely play Consol ports, and even when i do, the current consols, even when they were released, were to far behind a good gaming PC to have their games have any issues with performance on the PC.
Those rigs using mid range or low end tech that might have issues with the games, likely wont be being used to play consol ports becouse people with those PC's will likely be playing said games on the consols themselves.

The only time consol games have had a hard time on my computers in the past was with emulation. Project Dolphin and PCSX2 and some of their more demanding games really put my old C2E CPU rig in its place, but now..not a problem.

Wil ltheir be a differnece between AMD and Nvidia on consol ported games of the future, probably..but it'll likely be a difference between 80 FPS and 100 FPS, which really doesnt matter much so long as its over 60.
