[Ars] “Stop the Cyborgs” launches public campaign against Google Glass - Page 5

Im thinking this could actually be a really positive thing, at first i was against the glasses but now not so sure.

I know its random but im sure lives can be saved and people brought to justice through this tech. Many teens or even adults get bullied. If the potencial bully knows you are wearing prescription glasses with google tech and you can record their every nasty comment on you or behaviour then this could actually help stop this stuff. Sure for kids you might have the bully smash the glasses but if its recording to the cloud you already have your evidence.

Finally the tech has evolved enough to protect the nerds from the numptys ! all hail google glasses thumb.gif

Yeah, I'm saying boo to this. Why aren't they focusing on banning more forms of discrimination or trying to better their educational/political systems? Why google glass? Privacy and augmentation? Two things I'm not the least bit worried about. If we want to change privacy laws, I don't think google glass is the way to go. I'd like more freedom of speech, information and rights activism on the internet than google product activism.

How would google glass "Destroy multiple Identities." Really? My internet activities are 100% seperate from my public activities, short of a couple forums I'm on (car forums)

and google glass is a threat to our "Privacy in public" what the heck does that even mean? You don't really have much privacy in public.

So what if it has facial recognition, oh, whooptydoo i can see you have a google+ account and a facebook because google glass recognizes your face from those websites...really?

people are getting too paranoid. If you're that worried about your private and public life getting smashed together, don't use gmail for your public life..and don't use the same user name on every website you go on in the world.

Google glass is AWESOME, and I don't really see any problem with it, that it can do, that my phone can't already (for the most part)

It also lets us criticize things without needing to worry about it screwing over our lives.

It lets us completely humiliate child predators for fun, if we want.

It also helps to protect us from the government, if that's needed.

cyber bullying and child predators are a nonissue, compared to not having the internet ruin my real life when I want to watch some weird porn, or something that's actually important and would be frowned upon.

and supposedly google glass will keep us from being able to partake in these activities?

I'm not saying you think it will, but these people in the article seem to think it will.

Well, he was talking about how terrible multiple identities were. It's not like google glass is gonna make me not an internet pervert.

We are getting one step closer to having "Gargoyles" like described in the brilliant book "Snow Crash" where people who are wired for video on their bodies, just walk around recording everything out in the public. Some of which earns them money from the highest bidder. The more interesting the content the higher the potential price of course.

I would guess the issue is not privacy. The language used probably reveals something different - i.e. glass now, implant later, what is human, what is not, what would God say...

Some of those are very valid social issues, some are overinflated religious superstitions.

The glass will come and stay. I wear optical glasses now, despite the deficiencies "god" gave me and let me be myopic for the last 18 years after my early teens. I would say I am a cyborg in some ways too...lil bit of steampunk old-school doesn't make it much different.

Amputees with prosthetic legs? Cyborgs. Abominations.

Artificial Heart Valves? Transplants from OTHER FRIKKIN PPL? Pacemakers? Hearing aids? Car accident victims being reconstructed? Plastic surgery? Biology? Pharmacology?
Don't let me mention that so many of us are Folding, assisting research that can assist in manipulating life in so many ways - even abiogenesis research...woot

ALL SATANIC CYBORGS! They should be thrown in the pit with the rest of the imperfect ones. Right?

Wanna be Amish? Great...stop using the interwebs and feel free.

I know vanity and greed feed many of today's technology, but it does so much more for the welfare of humanity that it worth's the price. Even dealing with iron age superstitions and wacos that are convinced that they are too important for their life to end.

I am suddenly reminded of a movie, where they implant a video recorder into peoples eyes, that record their entire lives, and it's about the guy who makes the video's that represent their entire lives after they die.

oh yeah, it's called, The Final Cut.

I'm sure people think that google eyes are like that. Recording every action everyone takes every second of their lives.
