"Chinese authors believe the United States already is carrying out offensive cyber espionage and exploitation against China. China therefore must protect its own assets first in order to preserve the capability to go on the offensive. While this is a highly unpopular statement, WE ARE IN THE EARLY STAGES OF A CYBER ARMS RACE AND NEED TO RESPOND ACCORDINGLY!

This race was intensified when China created Kylin, their own hardened server operating system and began to convert their systems back in 2007. This action also made our offensive cyber capabilities ineffective against them given the cyber weapons were designed to be used against Linux, UNIX and Windows."

China is not only corrupted by it's own state but in the population as well. Hearing the stories of the chinese families that come over here tell, it's really darn crap over there. Now the government wants to make it worse for them? It probably has very little to do with outside sources, especially with the cyber attacks the chinese conduct on the west. :/

And by chinese I merely mean their system...and well...that means their government.
well if theyre already corrupt, then why do they need to hack into western computers? so they could learn how to be even more corrupt like the western corporations? i still think the Chinese are better off with their current govt than whatever puppet regime the west would like to prescribe for them. just look at the disasters created by the west in Iraq, Afganistan, and Libya. i think most people can argue that they were better off with their original government. the same can be said about the ussr. go to the former ussr, and ask the locals if they prefer the mess theyre in now, or when they were in the ussr. if China fell into western hands, i doubt China would be able to send a man into space, create their own search engine, space ship, aircraft carrier, stealth figher, have their own gps, make their own commercial air liners, cell phone frequency, and now its own operating system. none of this is achieved by known western puppet regimes like south korea, japan, taiwan, hong kong etc. each and everyday mainland China proves to the world that it does not pay to be a puppet of the west, and it pays to be independent player. this is why the west hates China so much. the west is probably scared to death that its puppets might follow China's lead and flee the plantation. for the moment, all the puppets can do is import crap from western countries, while mainland China actually makes it on its own. thats the true essence of independence. maybe you can learn from it.

yeah mao's era was awesome, especially the cultural revolution where they basically tried to wipe out traditional chinese culture altogether, destroying thousands of ancient artifacts, Buddhist and Taoist temples etc, and tens of millions were killed basically with the goal of defeating mao's political enemies. it was basically china's holocaust.

but i'm sure you won't acknowledge you know, historical facts, because you are a ccp paid poster

How is it a piece of crap? I've been using it for a few months instead of Photoshop (University is teaching with it now as Adobe refuses to give students cheap versions of Photoshop) and while it's not as polished, it certainly is a great tool.

blah blah blah, its crap, and that why it has the miniscule market share it does, the linux desktop enviroment is such utter garbage, Google decided to buy a implementation based on Jva, Java of all language for their mobile OS.

think about that for a while

You know, you've been slammed so many times for trying to talk about Linux when you clearly have used Ubuntu once in 2006, maybe 2008, did a bunch of stuff in the most obtuse way possible and then blamed the OS...You'd think you'd have stopped by now considering I don't think I've seen you come out on top of a single Windows v Linux argument, ever. They both have their uses and Linux certainly has a chance of becoming the most used OS easily, Android proved that normal users can use certain Linux "distros" so to speak.

the OS is crap, its been crap, and unless you need a custom solution with maximal flexiability, it continues to be crap, and thats why NO serious software houses that actually make money have any interest in Linux based OS's, and I have been using linux since its inception, I have used minix and I have copys of Windows 3.1 on floppy, don't sit here and attempt to make me justify anything, I;ve been using computers since the damn near the advent of the personal PC. Unix has always been a crappy general pupose OS. I haven't been slammed, I refuse to engage the stupidity of fanboyism, linux users are trolls. do the rest of the world a favor, make a better system or shut up about it already. Not everybody cares about root/etc/usr and multiuser across network time sharing remote windowing OS's that essentially forced time wasting wankery to operate. I need to get stuff done, not **** with miles of config files.

Because Microsoft didn't play dirty and didn't forced themselves into a monopoly? Yeah, totally Linux and Macs fault.

@the rest of the post; pretty apparent you don't know what you're talking about honestly.

SCollins can't admit that the backbone of the internet was carved with Unix. So what if he's gonna troll, let him troll and feel the need to justify his opinions. The fact is, Unix/Linux are more than a niche idea and far from useless. Wonder what crap response he would have if we got into the idea that Apple took much of the Unix base and made it into what it is today? Or the idea that it's still using Unix kernel, that's essentially open. Man, that's crazy isn't it? Who would have thought BSD derived from Unix, which ultimately created OSX. One could say the roots of OSX are older than the classic OS for Mac as well as being older than Windows. Yet it shows a fully functional, modern, desktop.

Basically his ideals and views on Linux are probably worth the weight in waste I expunge daily, even then the waste is probably more valuable.

[edit] Ugh, got too caught up in being a c unit. I'm glad china is doing this, more power to them honestly. Not that I like china or care about what they do, just like people doin something new.

Doubt it will change much, as someone said they already have their own version of redhat...But if it comes out good (I have more faith in the Ubuntu developers) then this is nothing but good news. Competition is always good in these situations.

People were saying that about Japanese stuff back in the 60's.

Sick and tired of this disproven and completely unfounded "things will never change" attitude.
