So you do say it every year. Glad that we are in agreement. I've heard it in every year since 2008, "Oh Linux is really gonna take off" "Gabe is going to bring Gamers to Linux!" "After Vista people will just flock over to Linux."

I have yet to see Linux rise anywhere near 10%

Again, no we don't.

And the past few years have been pretty big for Linux. Go do a bit of research instead of mindless bashing.

Yet in all those years Linux did not have Steam. Also, Windows 8 (to my mind) is still crap. Give Steam some time to get a firmer hold and as Windows sucks more Linux will get more popular.

So yeah, I hope Canonical + China make a good OS. (Go South Africa, etc, etc thumb.gif)

Also, way more than 10% of the world's population live in China. If they all switch to LInux....

If there's something to bash, I reserve the right to do so. And once again, yes you do. Saying, "No, we don't" doesn't make it true. But hey, don't take it personally. It's not like I'm saying you do, unless you're the official rep for the linux community rolleyes.gif

Nor does saying "yes you do" make it true.

Wonder if the chinese ever finish it or settle with taking a copy of red hat and calling Mao's hat.

The few kids running around saying the things you're saying we all say do not represent the majority of us. So, no we don't. The little forum kiddies are always going to say stupid stuff. But most actual Linux users aren't going around saying things like that.

And as Huzzbutt said, unless you can provide proof to this behavior you speak of, then your words are no more true than mine. I however, can find plenty of posts that aren't like that. I can even point you to some actual Linux forums aside from the trash forums that Ubuntu has if you'd want. Maybe it'd open your eyes to the actual Linux community and not just the little kiddies.

Why does everyone seem to think that China is so repressive, police brutality etc. Every year the Chinese population becomes more educated, if it were so repressive there would have been a revolution by now.
However they are an authoritarian state, they haven't really been communist for a while now.

Maybe because it is? Do you read the news by any chance?

I'll concede the topic of Linux to you guys. I'm not very well acquainted with the community except Ubuntu. So if you guys insist that you don't you'd know better than me. That said I still don't think Linux will get anywhere this year tongue.gif

Wonder what crap response he would have if we got into the idea that Apple took much of the Unix base and made it into what it is today? Or the idea that it's still using Unix kernel, that's essentially open. Man, that's crazy isn't it? Who would have thought BSD derived from Unix, which ultimately created OSX. One could say the roots of OSX are older than the classic OS for Mac as well as being older than Windows. Yet it shows a fully functional, modern, desktop.

Basically his ideals and views on Linux are probably worth the weight in waste I expunge daily, even then the waste is probably more valuable.

[edit] Ugh, got too caught up in being a c unit. I'm glad china is doing this, more power to them honestly. Not that I like china or care about what they do, just like people doin something new.

The backbone of the internet, was built on Bell Labs Unix, Don't sit here and yap off about it. Linux kernel based server OS's are great, for deploying as server OS's, and one of the HUGE reasons linux got traction here was, its was a unix clone, had good posix compliance, C programs ported easily, and becuase the source was available, it could be customized to run on whatever iron people had invested Millions of dollars in. My argument and rebuttle isn't about Linux in this regard, its about desktop linux variants, and the fact that they are UTTER GARBAGE, and anyone who denys this, is a troll living in a alternate dimension. The first step to fixing any problem, is admitting one exists, and Linux devs and users interested in Desktop linux, need to admit this, they need to recognize the fualts and they need to adress them.

good luck with that. I'll go use plan 9 or os/2 warp until then.
