Not true. I'm sure there is a whole list of Windows software for which there is no Linux equivalent. I just haven't found it yet.

Jeez, China just keep further isolating themselves from the rest of the world. How long until the revolution?

'Wean off of western software' to be true they should create their own OS from the ground up..... Linus Torvalds still lived west of China :-p

With a big company(or in this case, a dictatorship) pushing Linux, I think its marketshare will increase. Also consider Microsoft is having trouble getting people to NOT use certain services built into Windows in China, so a reduction in marketshare there may be a good thing for everyone.

Windows: Only good for games and spyware and viruses.

If you still get virus's and any kind of -ware, then you don't deserve to use a computer.

I haven't had any kind of malicious code on my PC since the famed MSBlaster worm of 2003.

Wrong. China already ships millions of linux images every year. Then they promptly put hacked Windows on it.

This won't matter one bit.

Because everybody else pirates Windows, and most people don't have a clue what open source software is anyway. Few people get out of bed one day and decide "I'm going to ditch my software and look for open source alternatives". The same is going to happen here as well. Why bother using a government-backed Linux distro when that is more work than using what one already has? Maybe if you're a hardcore nationalist...

Of course you haven't. If you did, it would obviously pop up a warning with a quick run down on what it's about to do to your system and button to opt out of the damage.

Not surprising given the Chinese attitude of self reliance.

Wow, talk about vision, Gabe made the right call after all. 1.3 billion potential Chinese Steam Linux gamers is a good start.
