Problems getting consistent FPS in BF3.

Thread Starter
So I just built this rig a couple weeks ago, and for some reason I cant stay at 60+ FPS even on the lowest settings. What seems to be the problem?

Here's my setup:

ASUS HD7850-DC2T-2GD5-V2 Radeon HD 7850 2GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121650

AMD FX-4170 Zambezi 4.2GHz (4.3GHz Turbo) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819106009

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231455

I don't touch my GPU clock settings all stock.

High Performance GPU clock settings - 1000 MHz
High Performance Memory clock settings - 1250 MHz
Power Control settings - 0%

I would think would be able to atleast the run the game on High/Med settings at 60 FPS, but I don't know. Can you guys help me? I play at 1600x900 60 hz.

EDIT: It specifically happens on B2K maps, and some vanilla maps.

I currently have not played BF3 yet, just don't have the time right now. From my understanding the game requires a strong pc to run well. I would suggest checking your computer for anything running in the background while playing. Try to turn off anything not needed, that might help a little.
Also make sure you don't have any viruses or junk on your pc.

Hopefully someone that has more experience with the game will chime in soon.

have you tried wiping drivers and reinstalling them?
Sounds like a driver issue. My HTPC has a 7850 and it will run BF3 on ultra (2xAA) @ 1080p with 35-45 fps stock clocks, you should get like 50 on ultra with low AA at your res. Did you download the newest drivers?
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx

If you did, uninstall and reinstall or use the beta drivers, I have them on my main rig with the 7970 and my HTPC and I have no issues so far.

Try decreasing FOV?

I tried what you all suggested buy my FPS is jumping all over the place. I can go from 100 FPS to 40 in an instant for no reason. Even with Vsync enabled it'll go from 60 to 40's. Is my GPU bad?

Like Deafboy said this is normal for online gaming. Part of it might be from the small amount of lag and the other part is the computer not having enuff horsepower. I play almost online games only and I keep my settings around medium trying to stay at 80+ fps. I see mine bounce between 70-130 constantly.
It is the nature of the beast. Since 2005 I have been constantly saving money for my hobby and just upgrade slowly over time. wink.gif

Does your cpu max out when you get the dips?

I get dips on my 2500k+2x7950's when the cpu hits %100 usage.
