Help with parts

Guys I understand how water cooling works. This isn't a tutorial question. What I don't get though is the pump and the reservoir. So performance wise I see they sell drive bay with pump and res together. I am about cooling and performance for overclocking. Does it really matter? and part of that confuses me because i have seen videos with pumps with ins and outs. How the hell does that work then. I was thinking originally you need to have your pump and rad very close to each other so res never goes dry. Then that being said Pump goes to res then from res to radiator then to CPU block out of block back to in on res? The damn pump and res is what confuses me. at what point does the tubing look like and how is the correct flow for pump and res. I'm not sure if pump to rad or how the hell the direction is supposed to go. I've looked at tutorials and for some reason feel like a complete idiot because I just cant visualize the damn scenario. I really just don't get it. I've tried looking at diagrams, video and written tutorials with no avail figuring out flow direction.

Water flows through the pump, just like every other part in the loop. It doesn't just push out pressure or something. think thats where you're confused. All pumps work the same way afaik. Look at an aquarium pum, or a sump pump- same thing, water comes in, gets propelled out (by a propeller biggrin.gif) and through the entire system, to return to pump. Can't get much clearer then how Ripsaw said it. thumb.gif

With drivebay pump/res combo, their will always be two tube holes. Water goes into first hole, gets swirled around by pump inside, then shot out through the other hole. With separate pump and res, all you have to make sure is that the pump is ALWAYS below the res. The pump will suck in water from the res, and shoot it out into the tubing that leads to the gpu, cpu, or radiator.
