i7 3770k vs i5 3570k for streaming gameplay and editing gameplay

So I recently started streaming games such as wow skyrim and BF3 (mostly wow) and decided to upgrade from my current asus gaming laptop and build my own rig. First of I do plan on overclocking and i do plan on recording my gameplay and editing as well. so my question is is it worth spending the extra 100 bucks to pick up the 3770k?

Here's what I am currently looking at besides the processor for my buid
  • Mobo: ASRock Z77 Extreme4
  • GPU: GTX 670 FTW
  • PSU: NZXT Hale82 850 watt

If you have any suggestions or input on that build or on which of the two processors to get that would be amazing!

If you don't plan to wait for Haswell then yes.

Because the video editing and also for gaming it's worth the extra $100 IMO. As games will probably be able to utilize the more cores/ more simulated cores (hyper threading) better in the future/

Plus since 1155 is TECHNICALLY considered a dead socket you'd have the best one on the 1155 socket, I almost wish I could buy now or had bought a 3770k instead of the 3570k but I got a 4.7 ghz chip on air with 1.25V and probably more if water-cooled so I couldn't switch when some chips don't even hit 4.5 lower than 1.3V.

OTHERWISE, wait for haswell as it's just around the corner thumb.gif

I would go with the 3770k because hyperthreading is suppose to help with streaming. You could wait for haswell, but from what I have seen/heard so far is that the performance benefit is pretty minimal over ivy bridge. I would go w/ tthe 3770k if you are ready to buy now.

Hmmm well I wont be able to purchase for a few more weeks.. maybe I'm better off just waiting for the new processors to come out.

In all honesty, Haswell will be a let down.

Where do you live? If you live in US near a Microcenter you can get 3570K for $189.99+$50 off a motherboard, or 3770K for $229.99, much lower price than any other reaetailer.

Regarding your question, 3770K will be significantly faster in encoding due to hypethreading, well worth the extra $100.

Sorry for the late responses guys; but yeah i did some research and seems like the haswells are very minimal improvements besides in power consumption. And I live in wisconsin i'm about 2 hours from the nearest microcenter so I'm not sure if its worth making the drive for it lol.

Just as a FYI: I can stream 1080p on my 3570k, i have no problems streaming at that resolution.

I stream Starcraft 2. I'd imagine WoW would be fine. You might have to stream BF3 at 720p on the 3570k though, maybe.
