After my main rig was down for a month due to having to RMA the processor, I decided to make a cheap backup.

The parts were mostly collected from all the specials on the deal there here. Other parts were leftovers when I upgraded my main rig.

Old parts:
2 x 4gb G.Skill ram
Kingston HyperX 3k 120gb
2tb Seagate green
AMD HD 6770

New parts:
MSI H77MA-G43
Celeron G1610
Fractal Design Core 1000
Thermalright True Spirit 90m

Checking the components before installing it in the case. I didn't know at the time what my case would be, so I wanted to make sure my parts were OK. (Little did I know newegg would have a sale on the Design 1000 the next week).

I was very surprised with this MSI board... No legacy PCI slots (on H77) and the small extras, like their front panel connector, made it a treat to work with.

I could of gotten away with using the stock Intel heatsink. But nah... The install felt just a bit more convoluted than it should (But that might my last install with Noctua's SecuFirm2 talking). Still, I prefer this install over pushpins that seem to come with the other 92mm heatsinks.

The clearances in this case are tight. But for a budget case I am really impressed. Pre-threaded motherboard standoffs are a really nice touch.

It is a shame about the lack of cable management. But I'm not going to complain at this price point.

An odd side benefit of this rig is that it is so lightweight. It's amazing what manufacturers are coming out with even at the lower end of the price bracket.
