The programs can't really be moved, but the Desktop is easy to move if it's Windows 7 (I don't know how to do it in Windows 8 yet).

Is it Windows 7?

Ok cool. You can do this:

  1. Open the C:\Users\username folder
  2. Right-click Desktop
  3. Choose Properties
  4. Switch to the Location tab
  5. The rest at this point is actually self-explanatory, but post again if you get stuck

You can do this with any folder in the C:\Users\username folder.

sorry for reopening this but know i have another problem(s):
it appears that everything i put on the D drive goes into the desktop, i mean like there is no folder named "desktop" like it used to be. so now if im putting something on the D drive it goes to the desktop.
another question: how can i transfer program and files to D drive? there is no location tab in its properties. it is very annoying that every program i install goes to that small drive.

EDIT:
currently the os is on c drive, aswell as program files, users, etc..
i want to transfer all of the files on C drive to D. EXCEPT the oparting system. is that possible?

That's because you somehow told Windows to make the D: drive become your Desktop folder. This is partially my fault because I should have said something like, "Select a specific folder where you want the Desktop to be. You can create a new folder first if you don't already have one that you'd like to use". I should have also said something to the effect that Windows is not going to create a D:\Desktop folder for you. You have to do all the work.

I do not know if this can be fixed, but right-click the D: drive inside of My Computer, choose Properties, and then look for a Location tab. If you have one, then you're in luck and you can fix it. If not, then I would not know what to do.

Unfortunately, the Program Files folders cannot be moved.

From now on when you install anything (except for device drivers), tell the installer where you want it to install the program. The option to do this is usually found in the "Custom" or "Advanced" type of installation. Then, you will see a part where you can change the installation path. This is the very best way to do it because any other way can cause nothing but problems.

When you say "all of the files on C drive", what files are you talking about?

Most likely the D "drive" is actually a partition. Press Win+R and type "diskmgmt.msc" -- see if it's actually 2 drives or not.

If it's 1 drive and 2 partitions, you can
1) move everything back
2) delete the D: partition
3) expand the C: partition to fill the rest of the drive

Note that there's a good reason for keeping a separate D: partition for data -- you can preserve your photos, music, documents, etc. while you reinstall your OS. It's your choice though.
