New and in need of advice

Thread Starter
Hi everyone smile.gif

I'm currently planning on building a new rig, and need advice about compatibility, power usage, and OC potential of the parts I chose. If you could suggest better choices in similar price range, it would be welcome as well. My target goal is to be able to play games like GW2, AC3 and GTA5 (when it comes to PC) in ultra details at HD resolution (1920x1080). I might also look at BF3, Crysis3 and Bioshock Infinite. Will this rig do it?

I've put the components together in this picture biggrin.gif

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  • CPU: Intel i5 3570k
  • Cooling: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO
  • MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
  • Graphics: Asus GeForce GTX 660 DirectCU II OC 2GB
  • RAM: Corsair DDR3 2x4096MB 1600MHz CL9.0 XMP Vengeance Blue
  • Casing: SilentiumPC Gladius M40

Here is what I want to keep from my old rig, and pass onto this one
  • PSU: Corsair HX520W 520W
  • Sound: Creative X-FI XTremeMusic

As well as 2 internal SATA and 1 external drive. No DVD player for now. I'm uncertain if this old PSU can handle all that? Is there anything in this setup that doesn't fit? Should I consider getting a 60-90GB SSD for game files? It should help in open world games like GTA5 and AC3, and especially in MMO's (GW2 suffers from slow model loading greatly).

My price range is around 900$

I might keep using my old graphics card for a while, which is a Radeon HD 5750, which I believe is held back by my old C2D E4300 @ 2.7Ghz. Would that make sense?

I'm in need of some expert advice smile.gif Thanks for any input!

All I know is that the PSU is plenty. The +12V capacity is 480W which is more than enough. ;)

I must say, the best first thread i've ever seen here! Rep for you sir!
Anyway back to business, The system is really good, maybe you might want to add an ssd in there.
Keeping the old GPU would make sense if you would save money and buy a more powerful GPU, because if GTA 5 is anything like 4 it's not gonna run well on GTX 660.
Other option would be to buy 660 now and SLI later on, that's a good idea but the Asus card is triple slot, so adding another one would choke the airflow of the upper one. Setup like that would work but it would be noisy and hot. I would rather go for a dual slot card from brands like EVGA, gigabyte, HIS, Club3d and so on
Also, the AMD 7870 is neck to neck with the 660 so if you could get a good deal or if the 7870 is generally cheaper in your country then go for that one.

I've never heard of that case manufacturer and i can't find reviews on it, i wouldn't trust it. Not saying it's bad or anything, just that i wouldn't buy a brand i've never heard of or could not find any tursty info on.
Look for brands like Rosewill, Corsair, Coolermaster, Antec and so on.

Where do you shop from? I could see if i can find anything to add or do different there smile.gif

Oh also wanted to mention that the high profile memory could be an issue with cpu coolers, not the hyper 212 with one fan, put if you decide to push-pull at some point you can't with the high profile ram.

SilentiumPC is a local producer here in Poland, and the case was getting good reviews here. I like it because of the docking station and controls located on top. However... I just saw how awesome Cooler Master HAF XB looks, and despite costing about 30% more, I think I must have it. Love on first sight? I'm going to buy mostly at local online shops here, and maybe some parts on eBay, like the CPU. Good idea about holding on with buying the graphic card, I too am worried GTA V will be a PC buster like IV was tongue.gif

I don't plan to change coolers, it is almost certain the cpu, mobo and cooling will remain as is for a couple years, until I buy new parts - I don't like playing with clearing thermal paste and other dangerous (for a non-expert) things like that wink.gif

Alright, if you know trusted reviews of it then go for it wink.gif
Note that you cant get max setting 1080p in pretty much any new demanding game with your current gpu tho, so if you want ultra details now, just get the 660 smile.gif

A HD5750 with GTX660? Makes no sense at all.
