i have a couple of question about using a lcd tv as a monitor

hi i have a couple of qusetion about using a lcd tv as a montior

1 is it a good idea and does it matter a what resoutoin i get because i have a hd 6950 that can handle up to 1080p and but if i bought a 1366x768 when i hook my pc up to it will i be able to rasie the resoultion

2 and will i have use less anti asling

you can't run anything higher than native resolution on your monitor/tv

ok i have a brother who has a 1366x768 but when hes on his pc he has his resoulion on 1920x1080 and hes using a hd 5450 do u think if i could do that by using hdmi cable

It doesnt work like that, he can set it @ 1080p but its just going to get scaled down to 1366x768. So the picture that he is seeing on his monitor is still being displayed as the native resolution.

The amount of AA you would need to use would be no different than an LCD monitor panel of the same size.

so if i game on a1366x768 and i put it @1080p i will be gaming at 1366x768

Yep. You can't force a monitor (or TV in your case) display higher than native resolution (monitors and TV has set pixels, you can't magically increase it by setting your GPU to send a higher resolution).

The TV will probably downscale the image to native resolution.

I would pump up AA if going to a lower resolution. The jaggies get worse as you go lower resolution.

The physical resolution of a panel is not software dictated, there are ACTUAL pixels on the screen and you cannot just make more of them.

Definitely get a 1080p screen for a pc, also your brother may get better performance if he set his res at the native resolution. Not positive on that one though.
