[BUILD LOG] From Rags to Slightly Newer Rags

The aim of this build is to part together free/extremely cheap parts to get the best performance possible. This isn't a project to build some crazy gaming machine, but simply to see the best I can do with my bargain hunting and curb alert hunting. This build might go a little slow at times; but I'm continuously working on tweaking it to get better and better! biggrin.gif

Without further ado, the details:

Current Build Details (3/23/2013):

CPU: Pentium 4 630 @ 3.00 GHz
GPU: Intel 82852 GM Onboard Graphics
RAM: DDR2 2 GB @ 333 MHz @ CL 5 Latency from Avant & HP mixmatch
Motherboard: Hewlett-Packard 09F0h
PSU: Hewlett-Packard 365W
Case: The bottom half of the case is an Altec and Lansing subwoofer, while the rest of the case is nonexistant.
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 80 GB 7200 RPM
OS: Windows XP 32-bit

Note: This also means that the computer has no monitor, no keyboard, no mouse, no chassis fans or anything. The monitor, keyboard & etc. that the computer is using now belongs to my mom's desktop computer and is not dedicated for my use.

As you can see, I'm running a bare bare minimum setup here and it's not modern by any extent of the word. Most of the components are salvaged from school computers that were destined for that trash or some of my dad's old computers. I have more parts on the way.

Parts on the Way:
- An old, generic Hewlett-Packard Mid ATX Case
- Some optical disk drive... Note sure of origins
- ATi Radeon 9250
- Three chassis fans... Unsure of origin
- A motherboard speaker... Unsure of origin
- An old, PS/2 keyboard... Unsure of origin
- A movement from the office room to my bedroom or the basement... Once I get a monitor

So that's the hard details of my extremely humble build. Here are some pictures:

Short Term Goals:
- Get the dang thing in a case with working audio (yep. It has no audio at all.)
- Get Windows 7 for it
- Get it to work with some Wi-Fi adapter

Long Term Goals:
- Get it to game better than my primary rig (laptop in sig)

Thanks for taking a look at my build! It'll be coming together slowly but surely!

Keep in mind; this build may not stay Intel indefinitely. It's possible that if I find a superior AMD computer somewhere to improve the build with, it'll change. Though that's unlikely.

Yay new RAM! Installed and perfectly recognized! It's a bit of a mixmatch between Avant and HP and "low profile" and normal profile RAM; but it all works perfectly fine and now I'm up to a comfortable 2 GB of RAM. Here are the "new" (donated from a friend) RAM sticks I got (3x512MB) which now fills up all my RAM slots entirely and also changes my single channel RAM profile to dual channel for increased performance!

Here's a pic of the new RAM going into the little rag system! thumb.gif

Now I'm finally at a comfortable and modern standard... Perhaps now it can handle some flavour of Windows 7; but we'll see sometime later. Anyway, that's the update for today! biggrin.gif
