[GSMArena] HTC One Review

To be honest, I feel a flagship well known, highly reputable mobile phone review website would be better than a 'generalised' gadget website like Engadget for mobile phone / smartphone reviews.

Voted Manufacturer of the Year in 2011 by the GSMA and emerging as the top US smartphone vendor later that year, HTC hit a rough patch and were struggling to find form through the better part of 2012. Complacency, fatigue, or something else - we don't even want to think arrogance - the company somehow forgot that even great products, which the One X and One S certainly were, need proper support and marketing to sell.

At the speed smartphones are evolving, a bad year can cause all sorts of trouble and HTC had to learn it the hard way. Fortunately, the financial trouble seems to have had no impact on the company's ability to produce excellent smartphones, as the HTC One is here to prove.

I'm still rocking a Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S1), but this thing is starting to show its age. Been waiting on this phone ever since the announcement and now it's delay! frown.gif
It can't get here fast enough...

I find that reviews from GSM Arena are very objective and they do tend to stick to a lot of facts when it comes to testing. Among other things, I love the fact that they even have a standard way of testing battery life versus the other sites and even have a picture comparison tool so you can see for yourself the minute details in pics.

Hail to the ruskies!

It's a really nice looking device, but the much hyped camera turned out to be disappointing, at least for me. They essentially traded good lighting performance for better low light performance. The former is much more important to me so it's a deal breaker.

Beautiful phone, and I could even deal with non-expandable memory because they opted for 32GB and 64GB flavors, but what is going on with this 'non-standard' button placement. HTC was actually one of the few that were still getting it right. Hell, the One X had it right.

Eh...I kinda disagree here, but that's because I don't particularly care for the button placement. That's probably just me though...

I've been sitting on my iPhone 4S 64GB to find an android phone that really suits my tastes. I've been gunning to move to Android for over a year now, and this has finally given me an excuse! Time to dump Apple and its sad excuse of a music library manager, and switch back to good ol' WinAmp and Android.

I just like the stock button placement. I STILL don't have my S3s button placement down-packed.

Also, don't forget to try out PowerAMP. Plays everything from ALAC to FLAC. Decent interface, too, with some downloadable skins. Seems to be up to par if not better than Winamp.
