Which is why I talk about the reported sales figures, which seem to indicate that Win8 is tanking about as bad as a new Windows version ever has; and news articles talking about corporate acceptance of Win8, which is hovering at zero percent.

I would like to think that those of us who run IT departments and tell you guys that we will not deploy Win8 for a long laundry list of reasons might have some credibility here, that you might listen to us at least a little...but that doesn't happen, even though we're not just hobbbyists we seem to get the same derision that a mindless fanboy would get. So whatever.

There are no long laundry lists, though.

There's only start UI and power button locations; that's what every argument amounts to.

The whole argument that somehow Windows 8 is a bad operating system is essentially grasping at straws. It's an improvement over 7 in pretty much every testable aspect. The only thing people really can claim bad about it is the UI which is entirely subjective.

I use Windows 8. I don't use Start8 or any thing of the sort. I have no functionality issues with Windows 8. Yet, according to people who dislike 8, it is somehow perpetually broken and unusable.

As I've said: I'm no fan of W8, I'm less of a fan of bad arguments though.

Running an IT department might lend you some credibility in some areas, consumer level expectations isn't one of them. If i want to know how to set up systems on a grand scale, I'll take your advice anyday. If I want an "industrial" Firewall you got my ear.
But when it comes to personal use of OS your wiewpoint is as bad as mine.

I work in IT but we havent deployed W8 on a wide scale (we'll probably wait for SP1 before we consider anything). But since we already get the software via MCCA, my boss, boss's boss, and I have been running it just for kicks. I'm also running Office 2013. I honestly have no problem with the lack of a traditional start menu, as I barely navigate through W7's start menu anyway. in most cases I type in what I want in the search bar in win 7 and in most cases it can pull up what I need.

For my needs, w8 is still fine. I RDP into server VMs for management (AD, print, MDT, etc) anyway and only have MDT's Deployment Workbench installed. MSRA and other things still work like they did in win 7.

That said, i dont "hate" w8. I'm using it. I just dont think it's worth upgrading to immediately.

As you can see, I've cleaned this thread. Let's stay away from 'personal' stuff, including berating people in ANY WAY (including implying that they're mindless propaganda victims) about their opinions in either direction re: this OS.

It's getting SO, SO, SOOOOO friggin' old rolleyes.gif

There is actually a lot more going on with the change from Win7 to Win8 than just a start button/menu. I understand that most people make a big stink about that silly little point, and in most users' daily use, they won't notice any other changes, but there are actually a LOT!

There is in fact a "laundry list" of disadvantages in Win8. I've even posted them right here on OCN a few times in the past (In fact, I'm fairly sure YOU were participating in said threads). They might not bother you as a (presumably) slightly-more-than-average home user, but don't ever doubt that power users and corporate IT will have a slew of legitimate issues with it.

Considering the UI, if you can't use the damn OS because the UI is broken and gets in the way, then it's broken for you. IF you can use the UI and have made unnecessary adjustments to the way you use your computer: good for you. Now get off everyone elses nut sacks because they don't like the new UI.

2 Days into Windows 8 with Start 8, yet to run into any obvious problems with Win8. Boot is slightly faster & the new task manager is so much more informative. Had I paid $100+ to upgrade I would probably regret it, but for $30+$5 for Start 8 I can't really complain. Intrigued to see what Blue would bring.

^ Hell yeah, lots of people upgraded simply because it was cheap. I stand by the comment that were it not cheap, it'd be doping even worse than it is now.
