Building a Pc for a friend ~700$ before taxe

Ok so my friend is playing mainly Starcraft 2@1080p, we live in canada! (so price are higher, lol) He doesn't plan on overclocking, but he doesn't know the power of overcloking biggrin.gif.
He is aware that 120gb is not that much room, but alot of performance.
Heres what I've done so far:
Option 1
PCPartPicker part list: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/LLuI

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($134.99 @ Canada Computers)
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($89.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($49.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($99.00 @ Canada Computers)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card ($199.99 @ Memory Express)
Case: Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower Case ($67.44 @ DirectCanada)
Power Supply: SeaSonic 360W 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($59.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($17.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Total: $719.38

Everything is the same but the Psu and CPU are in combo : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1243087

Option 2
I also saw this option with fx8320 instead of fx6300:
Buy this combo: AMD Bulldozer FX-8320 Processor & Gigabyte 970A-D3 USB 3.0 Motherboard
And this PSU: Corsair cx430 v2

The price is lower and he would benefit of the 8core, but the mobo (no cooling mosfet) is not as good as the asrock and the psu is not as good either, but still decent.
So the first option would be better if he plan on overclocking, and the second one if he doesn't overclock.
What are you tought

Stay away from Bulldozer far away. In choses option one looks good, you could get a better GPU if you went for a 7870. Also the mobo in the seconded combo imo isn't that good, my buddy recently got that mobo and I generally didn't like the features I kept that to myself but he also only payed $70 bucks.

Well I don't really get the stay away from bulldozer.
both fx8320 and fx6300 are part of the piledriver series, not bulldozer...
And fx8320 isn't just a downclocked fx8350?

the 7870 is also a bit more expensive, and I don't go higher in price overall

Well the combo saves him some money, which kinda allows him to be able to buy the fx8320

FX 4300/6300/8320/8350 are Piledriver - Vishera(Bulldozer 2.0), original Bulldozer was a flop because it was a new architecture with some flaws and AMD rushed a bit. Steamroller will be awsome rolleyes.gif

For Starcraft 2 you should use an Intel CPU due to their higher IPCs, because Starcraft 2 is dual core optimized and don't scale well with extra cores. However if you can't afford 3570K you would be better off with an AMD since i3s can't overclock. If you stay AMD use FX-6300 as FX-8320 give you no extra performance in game, and FX-6300 should run cooler and OC better than a 8 core:

Anandtech Starcraft 2 CPU benchmark.

what sherlock said about Starcraft 2. the engine doesn't use more than two cores.
you will have to overclock the FX chip to keep up with the Ivy Bridge @stock speed.
If your friend will play more games than SC2 then the FX-6300 would be a good
option. Pentium G2120 is all you really need for SC2 since it doesn't use more than
two threads. next set up would be an overclocked i5 or i7.

SC2 Heart of the Swarm Benchmark (didn't change anything)

But I would recommend a better power supply.

Ok, so as I understand, the fx8320 is kinda useless for his use, and the fx6300 is a better bet for his uses.
The i5 is kinda high for him, but I think he saw some good deal on i5 2300 on the ocn marketplace so that would be good for him.
+Reped sherlock and heuchler, thx
