Any ATI cards this generation without tons of little bugs?

I want a card to just work and not have to RMA - my 7870 XT has given me tons of headache from throttling to artifacting. I hear that a lot of the 7000 series have had various problems from coil whine to artifacting. If I had $250-375 to get another card, would anything fit the bill?

It also needs to be silent in addition to that, in a poorly ventilated case + room.

Any card can have coil whine. Even one of my GTX470's whine while folding.

If your getting artifacts RMA the card, and when you get it back setup a nice custom fan profile with after burner.

AMD is not the problem, you just got unlucky. In fact I have more problems getting coil whine on Nvidia cards then AMD, as I have yet to get one with AMD yet I have had 3 Nvidia cards that will whine while folding. Not gaming thank god, that would suck.

I've had my 7950 for close to 2 months now and have had zero issues with it, not sure what's causing your issues, perhaps you got a lemon?

If you monitor your core clock/GPU load/vcore you will notice all sorts of strange spikes that don't belong. This is common in the Tahiti XTs.

As for artifacting, I'm not sure if its once of the unresolved series 7000 artifacts (which would disqualify all current gen AMD cards for me) or if this card is a total dud.

My last 2 cards were AMD; and most of my cards ever. I love them for their price/performance but this one has been giving me too much grief.

I have a 7950 and 7870 in two different pc's both gigabyte Windforce. I have not had any problems apart from a slight random click sound from one of the fans when they spin to 60% which they rarely do if ever. I also coil whine on both but only when the frame rates extremely high like in a menu which vsync off

coil noise from video card can be an issue with certain power supplies with the combination
of video card. try it out on a different system, buddies house. but it sounds like you just got a bad
card. RMA it if in doubt (hopefully within 30 days to the store you bough it at).

Some Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 Cards Affected by "Black Screen" Issue was caused by
bad quality ceramic capacitors responsible for conditioning power to the GPU. Sapphire
going cheap and not sticking to reference design. trying to save a few pennies.

poorly ventilated case - the CM690 has pretty good air flow (newer cases have better).

I believe you are seeing the boost of the card going up and down. It does that when the load on the card goes up or down. I think most of the newer gpu's on both sides do this now. It is just a power saving thing. My msi 7870 tf3 ghz ed.doesn't do it because it does not have boost on it like the 7950's. No artifacts either. I think you might need to RMA your's if it is doing that. Just my 2cents.gif

The 7950 is arguably one of the best cards ever created, and it sports an outstanding price to performance ratio, and there's plenty of varieties available from brands like MSI, Powercolor, Sapphire, Asus, and so forth. I went for a 7970 for the classic reason, "because we can" smile.gif it's totally overkill for my rig, but eh, who cares wink.gif there have been very few legit cases of 7950's going wrong, same with 7970's from decent brands.. Just make sure you test the card before you stick it in your rig for good and you'll be golden thumb.gif

i havet had any problems with either of my 7970s noted they are under water but they run great. Only thing i always do is i disable ulps seems to cause me issues with msi afterburner so i disable it and they run fine. If your having artifacts seems like could be a bad card your thottleing could be boost setting power limit/ power tune to 20% should fix that.
