Please, stop.

By your logic every screen in an OS ought to have a single-click shut down icon somewhere so that shutting down is as efficient as possible. That's what'll make the perfect OS is it? rolleyes.gif

Like was said earlier, my desktop sits on my desktop and when I shut down I just hit the power button, something that is by far more efficient than any other way of doing it...

In any case pressing three keys to then be able to access the Power menu is not efficient. In Windows 7 it's there for convenience, but the main goal of that screen is arguably to get you away from the desktop and eventually lock the PC afterwards (although there are other options they conveniently added to make it more useful).

2. You can't possibly be saying that pressing two keys, typing four letters and hitting yet another key is possibly faster or more efficient or in any way means that the person who chooses to do so is knows how to use computers versus the person who uses the mouse efficiently and clicks twice to accomplish a task, are you ? Please tell me you are joking.

I'm not...time yourself. Maybe you're a slow typist? I won't be so arrogant to say my way is 100% but I doubt there's many who are faster steering that mouse around.

But the fact is you did! Read your post again. It's full of self-proclaimed superiority, as if the mouse is suddenly a second rate user interface compared to the keyboard. Ironic coming from people defending a touch centric OS.

Even your phrasing is biased. "steering the mouse around" ? Really ? You make it sound like mice come inside a maze you have to find your way out of. Please. People don't steer mice around to get to the Start menu.

It really is this sort of pedantic argument against Win8 that makes you guys look foolish. Two whole clicks to shut down instead of one? Give me a break... rolleyes.gif

Pedantic argument ? How about factual argument ? This isn't a matter of opinion, it's fact. If name calling is the way you find to make an argument, then I think we are done here.

It's not fact. It is obvious that pressing the power button on the desktop is the fastest possible way to shut down if that is really such a worry to you. If you don't keep your desktop on your desktop like 99% of computer users that's your problem, not MS's...

By my logic Microsoft shouldn't make the OS worse in areas where it had achieved perfection. It's as simple as that.

Desktops are called desktops from the time they sat under the monitor, which isn't the case anymore, at least for enthusiasts. Personally, I have my mid tower on a separate small table next to the desk so that 1. I have my desk with more space; 2. there is much less vibration coming from what I do on the desk going into the PC case, and it does away with any risk of me accidentally hitting the case.

Looks decent, I haven't spent too much time with windows 8, but I'll happily install it on my next PC.

LOL. You're so defensive. Maybe both of us are wrong? Nah...there has to be a right way and it has to be your way because anything that doesn't make sense to you couldn't possibly make sense to anyone else? Face it you have other ways of doing it in Windows and yet you complain about one method disappearing? Try out the other ways before you complain too much. If you're upset afterwards just remember...you're the minority of the consumer base and if you don't think the company is listening to you then you don't use their product or you make your own. Failure to do anything but complain gains you nothing.

PS: I'm not defending Windows as I'm pointing out how people really don't think anymore. One option goes missing...maybe they replaced it with a "better" one? Or maybe they are stupid? If the later then why are you paying them? Come on people.

Again, I'm sorry that MS didn't design Win8 specifically around where tpi2007 keeps his PC and how he can most easily turn it off. Somehow you're just going to have to find a way to carry on... rolleyes.gif

no it does not. i had to slipstream drivers into my win7 installation to get it to work, and it also didnt detect my RAID0 when win8 did.
