Website : PPCS
Order Date : ~4 years ago
Order Amount : $600, part in question cost ~90 each at the time.
Did you read site FAQ/Policy : Yes
Problem Date : Same as order date
Person who you contacted : I was never given a name, even when asked.
Final Result : I got what I paid for, 3 months after I paid for it, with no compensation for all the BS along the way.

Was shipped a defective radiator. All emails and phone calls were ignored for about 2 weeks, at which point they pretty much told me "a cracked radiator isn't defective unless it's actively leaking", and that I should just go ahead and use it and not bother them unless it actually developed an issue. Apparently risking all my hardware cool in their books. And of course, 2 weeks later, it indeed started leaking.

Took another week before they responded again, this time asking for photographic evidence. Now, I had already emailed them photos before even using the thing in the first place, but ok, they want more, they can have more. These new photos were taken with some visible residual moisture still in the radiator (it was a magicool elegant, it had an acrylic bit on the end you can see into). They used this to claim that returning it would violate their policy of no returns for used liquid cooling parts, even though I had only used it in response to their demands and refusal to replace it in the first place. Never mind the fact it was obviously defective and I was asking for a replacement not a return.

Well, I really wanted that tarn radiator. It was just so beautiful, and the performance profile was pretty top notch at the time too.PPCs was the only North American seller, so I said screw it, it's not worth the hassle, and bought a second one from them.Guess what? It showed up at my doorstep broken. Spiderweb microfractures throughout the acrylic bit, and some big obvious chunks missing in even intervals where I can only assume they had carelessly dumped the thing without a box on a metal rack for storage.

Called them up demanding they actually fix this nonsense and replace the unit with a non-defective one, and that they actually check that it is not defective before sending it to me. I was not going to repeat the last incident. Took a while, and a lot of photographs and arguing on the phone but they agreed to "take a look at it in person to confirm", which means mailing yet another unit back at my expense. At this point I've almost paid for a third one in return shipping alone, but what was I to do? I sent it back in.

They then called me telling me their "expert technicians" (LOL!) couldn't find anything wrong with it and thus mailed it back to me. I was outraged, and threw a fit on the phone with them. They just told me they couldn't do anything while it was in the mail, and I would have to wait while it arrived. It arrived soaked in water, obvious defect still present. They refused to take it back because it had liquid in it and was thus "used" ... THEIR liquid, the liquid from their stupid "test". They then threatened to add me to their "bad customer list" for "trying to cheat them after wasting their time".

I posted this story here on OCN as well as on resellerratings.com (or some similar site, I don't really remember). The next day I get a phone call from them, this time a new voice I haven't heard before. The guy immediately starts cussing me out about ruining his great reputation. I hang up. He calls again, apologies, tells me his name is Hank (this is the first time anyone from PPCS has given me a name, despite asking a few times) and asks what he can do to fix the problem . I told him I want a freaking working radiator, and compensation for all the BS along the way. He offers to give me that in return for removing my review on the rating website. I told him I'd update the review, after he fixes the issue.

Well, he gave me a Black Ice GTX, since apparently all of their Magicool Elegants were known defective units that they were just hoping no one would notice. The new radiator, although not what I wanted and not what I paid for, at least showed up in working condition. He then gave me a code for store credit equal to two magicool elegants minus the cost of the Black Ice. Still no compensation for all the BS along the way, or for all the return shipping costs (at this point I'd actually paid more in return shipping than the cost of one of the radiators. Two radiators if you count shipping the broken ones to me in the first place).

Overall time from first issue to "resolution", ~3 months.

I cut my losses and simply decided not to deal with them again unless absolutely necessary. I dare you to try and call that reliable. Petty stuff like getting aluminium sent in an envelope, or having no tracking number, utterly fails to compare.

This is not my only issue I've had with PPCs, but it was my biggest one. I've also had issues with missing fittings, incorrect size clamps, and some other small stuff.

On the other hand, among all other sellers combined, I've received 1 fan with the wrong connection attached (I ordered a molex, received a 3 pin.something I was able to fix myself for free in about 5 min and thus never even bothered reporting), and two wrong size "free" (included with radiator) fittings (didn't report, wasn't going to use them anyway), and one wrong thickness thermal pad (which I did report, and I was immediately mailed a new one for free with no need to return the original). I've also had some RAM die on me, no fault of the seller, which was immediately replaced. Several of the sites I've had literally 0 issues from. Sidewinders even has done some custom work for me at no additional cost. These are what I consider reliable.

You dared me and i'm here biggrin.gif
If they have 100,000 A++ orders, and you have 1 bad order, you would have to be insane to say they are not reliable, when indeed they are.

Again, I'm sorry you had a problem, but you do realize if they send you a sealed box with a component, and the component is defective, most of the time you need to contact the manufacturer, why? they sold something to you that was sold to them, they did not make it , put it in a companys box and sell it to you.

Yeah it sucks when this happens but they do have policies, they obviously don't want to deal with rma'ing and they are just a reseller.
I'm still not sure why you didnt call your bank, would of took less than 90days to resolve it there, or you could of called the people who make black ice radiators and have them send you a new one because they were the problem, not performance-pc's
this was 4 years ago but hey, i've had worse happen with frozencpu like i said before

They didn't send me a sealed box. They sent me a radiator wrapped in bubble wrap and duct tape.

Furthermore, as stated, the defective radiators were Magicool Elegants. The Black Ice was the final replacement. Magicool's only official reseller in the NA sector is PPCs and it is their responsibility to deal with all defective units they sell.

100,000 A++ orders and only one bad case? Try typing PPCs into this very forum's search, see what your first 5 results are.

Dunno where you are pulling these assumptions out of, but they're completely wrong. Sorry, I don't like calling people out, but you really need to read first if you're going to respond.

Speaking of, why is Newegg even listed on here? They don't sell WC gear, their selection of fittings is very limited.
I don't know if your just listing sites that do water or just reliable sites so for UK

https://www.aria.co.uk/

They do the AIO water but also do a lot of main components and after £900 I have never had problems with returns

it's just a list of reliable online sites, yes more focused towards liquid cooling, but just reliable in general biggrin.gif

Maybe it would help a bit if you put a score next to the stores in the post say a (2/0) where 2 is the praise it gets and 0 is how many issues it receives. This way we could quickly get a better idea if a store is having issues etc.

The poll is decent for the best store but everyone could say a +1 for a good experience and -1 for a bad and list why for both maybe.

Everyone and their mother knows Newegg is a reliable site. thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif I think its presence is skewing the vote results, because I'm interested what people who voted Newegg would have voted otherwise. This is a watercooling forum, and the poll is a resouce for people to find etailers who cater to WCing enthusiasts - these sites are harder to find and are specialized subset of computer stores.

You seem to be very confused on what my thread is and what you want it to be.

I put this in the water cooling sub forum of the overclock net forum. this does not mean my list is just for wc supplies. otherwise i would of titled this thread "RELIABLE WC"

if you wan't please go make your own thread, and don't post unconstructive criticism in mine

I've ordered quite a bit from PPC's. Some from FrozenCPU. Couple of times from Xoxide and sidewinders each.

I keep ordering at PPC's more than other places because they always have ALL that I need. Even if another place has a item for cheaper, the overall cost ends up being cheaper at PPC's because of the shipping. I never had a problem in regards to products or shipping.

NCIX.us... I did have 1 issue one time. I bought some Arctic Cooling fans, got the confirmation and order updates but it stopped short of shipping. I waited and waited. I gave them a week. I finally emailed them and they told me it was out of stock. I swear it did not tell me that while I was ordering. I ended up changing it out with different model of same fans. They shipped right away but with a signature required shipping. I do not like the signature shipping because I never know when the shipment will arrive.

Xoxide... their cheapest shipping option always end up being a 7-day shipping time for me. While all the other places seems to be 2-3 days options.

FrozenCPU... I only order from them during their sales. Otherwise most of the time it seems like whatever I look for is more expensive than PPC's.

I haven't ordered from Newegg in a really long time now because of tax in TN. frown.gif I pretty only use them to browse and then I shop at amazon for the same product. Usually a few dollars more but much cheaper thanks to no tax.
