Since the CPU is the only thing being overclocked, yes, up the vcore.

Does folding check your results now? I remember folding was looked down on as a stress testing tool due to the fact you could be hurting the cause by sending bad computations.

Agreed, but what do you mean "it depends how stable you want your system"? If unstable, corrupt data will start filling up your disk, and eventually you will need to format.

And to Lord Xeb, the quick and dirty guide is a GREAT tool indeed, but can I ask something? To the "amount of RAM to use" tab, the overall RAM used, shouldn't the 90% amount to the AVAILABLE RAM, and not TOTAL RAM? Otherwise Prime will start reading from the page file, and not actually stress the RAM?

There's a reason for the voltage to be regulated in such increments... Take one step at a time. If you feel you can up it by 0.005,then do it. But keep a close eye on the temps.

Im sticking with 4.5 as my 24/7, if it is stable.

How stable does a pc have to be to run Super PI?

No one will be able to answer that question, no PC is ever 100% stable. If yours doesn't crash in games, apps atc, after you run a stability test for a period of time YOU feel comfortable with to claim stability, then you should be ok.

Sorry, meant to say it depends how anal you are on stability.

I'm pretty anal about stability and consider a 2 day p95 minimal under worst case ambient temperatures. On my high overclocked systems, I p95 every 4-5 months to test for any CPU degradation.

To OP, if the computer isn't work critical you don't need to go crazy.

Agree. Stability testing should be tailored for the intended use of the computer. for a gaming rig, p95 @1-3h (8-1792FFT, 50% ram, 5 min per FFT) since this is not really a "fault-intolerant" use. stock trading (millsec) - 24h p95@ 24-48h Full FFT range, 80% ram 15min per FFT and some IBT with max ram... this is where 8 core Xenons using EEC memory are golden (and cost $2K per cpu). Even then, a code or driver glitch can bring it down!

I would honestly say OCCT for about an hour, two hours if you really want to make sure.

I've found that P95 isnt really that great of a stress tester for FX chips, and I've found errors much faster in OCCT than P95, and it got much hotter in OCCT as well. When I stressed my CPU for stability in p95, I got around 45 - 50c. In OCCT, it went over 65 - 70 LOL.

If you can survive OCCT, then you got a stable overclock smile.gif

I might try OCCT, Overnight I got a Illegal Sumout halfway through, what would you say is a safe voltage for 24/7 with this chip?
