your textures kinda need a little help..
If I have time I can maybe do a few static meshes for ya.
I've done environments in the past, I just hate uv'in. Its the worst part of the job.

ok well tell me what your looking for and hopefully if I'm on same page as you I can give you some nice stuff. I'll do what I can for a little but I can't get really involved.

I take it for the buildings, your using the engine editor to apply 1024x1024 tillable textures to the geometry after you've UV'ed it and imported it. So basically you don't need to unwrap things like the buildings if they are in different pieces.

If so, works for me, cuz that’s easier anyways. lol, I'm use to defuse, specular, normal maps and ambient occlusion all on one model.

also let me know what kinda 3d app you got.
I'm not 100% familiar with hammer so will a .ASE import into it?

Just so were on the same page what buildings are we talking about?

If you mean the outside ones they are objects from hl2.

The 4 middle buildings are made from brushes in hammer.

If you make objects you could just have all the textures and everying applied with UV's and send me a .obj file and the texture. I would them convert them to a useable format in hammer.

To answer your question if .ASE will import to blender then yes it will work.

to me it looked as if all the buildings are mapped as I described in my last post? Its fine to some degree, only I personally would have put a little more modeling in there and used a little less dependence on textures for basic detail. If the half-life engine is a optimized as I understand it to be it should have any problem dealing with a higher poly count.

or are you making all of this in the engine edditor only?

Just let me know what your having problems with and I'll see what I can do.

O I get what you mean now. I am going to try and get everything textured first then I'll take what your saying and add more detail. So I guess I'll be talking to you about a week form when Steam is fixed.

Thanks for your help!

Edit: ok generally the way I do it is create my objects in maya or max and import them with the UV info. From there you can deside on if you want to use basic tilable images or unique maps for every object.

even if you just need some help with some props its cool.

Im really trying to make this using the editor only. I don't want people to have to download a ton of models.

well, maps I've done in the past are around 120megs (other engines) so its up to you. If you optimize it and use a few static meshes you think your going to duplicate you can keep the file size down and increase the quality of your map. Each static mesh you duplicate is a instance so you only have to download one.

I see your point, but like I said if you need a little help, I'm around. I just can't use hammer that well because I've never needed to.
