Triple Monitors, 2 diff ATI vid cards, will this work?

Thread Starter
So I went to try and setup a third monitor today but did not know I couldn't just use the 2 DVI's and 1 HDMI on my 5850 BE. From what I can tell I need a display port in order to do this. What I'm wondering is, A. is that completely correct? Is there no workaround? and B. I have an old 4870 sitting in my desk drawer collecting dust... If I pop that in and run the third monitor off that will there be any problem? If I do this I shouldn't crossfire the 2 obviously right?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

First part is correct, no workaround. 2 monitors from dvi/hdmi, one must be displayport or minidisplayport.

You can do what you said below, with the 5850 and the 4870, but you must realize you could not game on all three monitors. Only crossfire cards that are in the same family, such as 58xx or 79xx.

Yea, wasn't planning on gaming on all three, only gaming on the two mains which will run out of the 5850. Third is for movies, temp monitoring, itunes etc., so that should work without a problem?

You want to game on two monitors? Why not plug all three monitors in the 5850? You can get a display port adapter.

Cannot crossfire those cards though.
