first amd build - Page 2

post #11 of 17
Hi again shilka,
Op let me link you to a pc part picker that i made for the cheaps thats amd and should be just fine for what you need, just look at the board/ cpu. let me know if you think its enough for you. dual core might not be enough for you but its up to you to decide.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/IM5D

EDIT: this cpu / board is impossible to beat for the price, if you want to go up it would cost you and you need a good graphics card. most likely a 7950 or 7850

The BitFenix Spectre Pro fan is crap i can say that first hand had one 120mm and 140mm and they are some of the worst fans i have ever tried.

They move almost no air and make a lot of nosie at the same time they are so not worth it.

It was not about the fan, it was for the core components, that was a possible build i made for someone else but i went with a different one, but it is cheap for what you get when it comes to the cpu / mobo

Not sure why you're set on AMD, but in your budget range/target applications it's not a big deal as long as you're willing to overclock. You MUST overclock to achieve decent cost/performance. If you don't want to overclock, go Intel. And you'll want to go to your local microcenter. And I'm assuming you're not including windows & peripherals, which would drastically change the budget.

fx-6300 - $120 decent performance when overclocked, also maybe the best mid-range gaming CPU AMD makes in terms of cost-effectiveness.
@microcenter in-store

Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 - should be $70 after getting $40 off for buying it as part of an in-store bundle deal with the fx-6300. If they don't automatically give you the discount, scream and holler until they do. If they still don't, settle for the slightly-worse ASUS M5A97 R2.0 for $55 after taking $40 off.
@microcenter in-store

Crucial Ballistix 2x4gb 1600mhz RAM - should be $48 after a $5 in-store bundle discount.
@microcenter in-store

Sapphire 7870 (comes with two game download coupons) - $220
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202025

Xigmatek Gaia heatsink - $20 - for light-moderate overclocks. If you want a more heavy duty cooler, get an HR-02 macho from amazon for about $55.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233082

Asus DVD-burner - $18
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151256

Total: $496, not including tax, including shipping.
No, I didn't try hard to get that close to $500.

Make sure you have a quality PSU to run the stuff...

^^^ This, the 970a is a very good board, stable power even at 5.3. Looks vbery good, but once again, you will need a quality 500/550w to run that.
