Question about my new DK2108

I just got a Ducky DK2108 as my first mechanical keyboard. Really happy with it overall, I feel like I may have been better off with brown switches but the blacks are great too (and I'm probably wrong about that).

The thing that has me confused, however, is the NKRO toggle switch. When I read that this keyboard had NKRO support, I figured that it switched between PS/2 and USB mode. But instead, Fn + F12 switches the keyboard to NKRO. I hit the key combo, the LED flashes rapidly for a few seconds, then I hear the windows disconnect sound followed by the connect sound. After that the keyboard comes back on, and the NKRO LED is steady green.

The function seems to work fine, but I don't understand how/why. When NKRO is active, the number pad and media controller keys still work. In fact, it doesn't seem to change anything about the keyboard operation.

So, is there something I'm missing here? If I'm not losing any features by activating NKRO, why is there a toggle? Is there any reason why I shouldn't just leave it on at all times (extra processing/latency maybe)?

EDIT: formatting.

I guess that makes sense. I didn't think you could have true NKRO over USB, so my assumption was that I was misunderstanding something. But if it's modifying the interface with the PC in some way, I guess you would need to turn it off for things like KVM and BIOS. Thanks
