Shouldn't 7950 be superior to Nvidia's last gen graphics cards?

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2399570,00.asp

It is an old article because the 7950 sells for 300-290 price range now and at that time it was 450. I took a fancy to the 7950 because of its affordable price tag of 300-290, but at the same time if it's not much more powerful than what I already have in a gtx 570, than maybe it's not worth updating to this particular card? Or is this review very old and that Ati has since updated Drivers so 7950 is now much better than 580/570?

7950s now come with 925mhz boost clock. With current drivers, a 7950 boost is about on par with a 670 and competes with a 680 when overclocked. Here is a review of one of the best 7950s you can get, a HIS 7950 ICEQ x2

Lol at PCmag lachen.gif

Try reading a articles from people that actually know what they are doing.

The 7950 can be a bit slower then a GTX 580 in some Nvidia optimized games but most of the time it is faster and in some games it will crush the GTX 580.

The question of whether or not you should swap a GTX 570 for a 7950. I wouldn't. I would opt to get another GTX 570 for SLI. Its more cost effective and gives you more performance though the 1.5GB vram can be a limiting factor even at 1080p.

ATi has updated drivers very much but the gap still isn't that large unless it's a higher resolution (making use of the VRAM/Memory bus).

Big difference a year makes, eh?

what cpu do you have and what games do you play?

edit: i agree with one poster. if you have the right psu, then you can get a cheaper 570 and sli.

I need a sli-hack for my motherboard. Do you know of any? Also wouldn't another gtx 570 use too much watts and cause too much Heat? Is Sli even worth it on Amd? Isn't Sli much weaker on Amd compared to Intel?

CPU: Amd Phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz
Motherboard: M4A79XTD EVO

if you can get 4GHz out of that cpu, then maybe sli may benefit you. if not, then just save up and wait for haswell or steamroller before looking at a new gpu setup.2cents.gif

Most 570's are 1.2 GB each... which is becoming a limiting factor for 1080p. 1GB is easily not enough (As shown in the 7850 1GB tests which crash and burn when higher settings are turned on..). I wouldn't recommend SLI tbh. Maybe wait till HD8k or GTX700's imo. An upgrade now to a 7950 wouldn't be huge.. its there. But you know what I mean smile.gif

The SLI hack works great, used it on my 460s if your wondering about "how". HyperSLI, thing works great.

I like the power of the titan, even tho it's weaker than the gtx 690 but it uses less watts/heat so it might even be a better overclocker as well. I would love that card, but realistically even if I had 1 grand, I'm not too sure I would want to spend that kind of money on a card. I'm one of those people that really prefer only one graphics card in my motherboard. I just think 2 cards are trouble, plus with the added weight it could ruin your system.
