If you double click a row it'll show up in a historgram bar thing...

According to hwinfo64 it looks like I'm going to need another stick of RAM. Physical memory load hangs around 96%, and in game I usually end up with a few hundred MB available physical RAM. Aside from that I also started seeing strange spikes in GPU utilization. The graph below shows the GPU will spike randomly for less than a second. Also, it looks like the GPU utilization isn't running very smoothly compared GPU clock or GPU memory clock. In other words, there are a lot of peaks and valley's, is this normal even though GPU clock is smooth and uniform? Is there any correlation here? These spikes also happen during idle. And idea what could cause this and if this is an issue I should investigate? I'm not sure what else to look at...

With that much left your swap file is getting raped. Looks like uh might have found your problem!

Yeah RAM is getting hit hard for some reason. But do the 100% GPU spikes seem like an issue?

No you'd actually like to see high GPU usage unless your frames are bad... indicating that 100% is going into the trashcan rather than your eyes.

High usage + Looks good = it's doing the work its supposed to be doing.
High usage + looks bad = bad
low usage + looks bad = bad
low usage + looks good = overpowered. like my 7970 playing dota 2

So based on the graphs and hwinfo64 is there anything else that you can see that is out of the ordinary? Is my problem really just something as simple as another stick of RAM? I still don't understand how the PC RAM can have an affect on this when the GPU RAM isn't even being fully utilized.

Well, games need both system memory and video memory. I can't claim to be familiar with SC2, so I don't know about its RAM usage, but it's clear from what you've said that you're maxing out your 4 gigs. Just out of curiosity, how did you come to be running a single DIMM? Your system really should be running in dual channel mode, which requires sticks in multiples of 2.

You still need system memory (RAM) to handle the main part of the game application, when you run out of system memory Windows uses the Page File on your HDD to store temporary data so you don't run into a "insufficient memory" error.

This is where you are experiencing massive drops in frames, a HDD compared to RAM in speed is like getting milk from your local supermarket (RAM) to getting it delivered to you by plane from the other side of the world (HDD). It's just substantially slower which causes the system to hang as it waits for stuff from the HDD hence your experience with frame drops.

Get another dimm that matches the one you currently have and put them in dual-channel mode (look up your motherboard Ram slot config so you know which slot is the right one). Once you do that you should have no problems
