New and willing to learn.

Hi all smile.gif

I am very old school. I was born in 1980 the year IBM invented the personal computer. I've been into tech and dinos and space all my life. Always been a tweaker and a hacker.. Often when a system breaks down I'm glad cause I can figure out how to fix it.

I'm fairy new to overclocking though and I'm hoping to gain some knowledge or getting advice from more experienced people.

This is my current system. I'm not rich..

MB: P8Z77-V LK
MEM: Crucial Ballistix Elite 2x4GB 1866Mhz 9-9-9-27-2
CPU: i5-3570k
CLR: CM Hyper 212 Evo
GFX: GTX 660 OC (Gigabyte)
PWR: CM Silent Pro M600
HDD Samsung SSD 840 Pro

Up until now I've reached a stable overclock of 4,8Ghz leaving the FSB at 100 and increasing multiplier to 48x whilst increasing vCore to 1,280V and staying under 83 degrees max.

I've toyed with 49x multiplier and higher voltage but kept crashing and I stopped for now knowing my current turbo max with 48x is above average (with air cooling) if I search internet. I've got 4,9Ghz stable but the temp goes up close to a hundred wich is scary to me.

Here is a screenshot of the stable overclock I achieved yesterday. There has been some chances since than. I've decreased voltage from 1,3 to 1,280 and core temps dropped from 90 ish to around 83 on max cpu load.

Is it possible for me to go any higher? What would be the next step?

Amongst other things I'm puzzled about PLL voltage since the only options I have are 1,8V and 1,9V.

Any help appriciated.

If you want to go higher I would suggest a custom water loop. 83c is too high for my personal taste.

Welcome to the Forum.

You are not in the right section for these kind of post.

BUT:

Running prime 95 for 12 hours will probably burn your chip if you haven't delid or without watercooling.

I was only able to overclock my brother's i5 3570k to 4.6 Ghz without delidding with a big 360mm Radiator an EK HF Supreme block.

If a moderator reads this could you move my post please?

Actually with speedstep disabled (wich I do when trying to chieve higher overclock) I have much higher temps.

Right now I do have my cpu overclocked but with Speedstep enabled and core temps whilst under full load and running at 4,8Ghz only run as hot as 77 degrees now.
