The old E6320

Hi All,

It all started with me getting a 60+hr a week job and they gave me a laptop.

My E6320 on a MSI P35 Neo with 4 gig Kingston Value ram + Inno 3D 8800GTS OC powered by an Antec True Power Trio 650W, all sitting in an Antec 900. (probably retro as far as cases go lol)

GATHERING A LOT OF DUST frown.gif

I finally bit the bullet and said lets turn it into a HTPC. With the power to play an occasional game of course.

So the Antec got snapped up by one of my mates and the local gumtree trader had somebody selling a Silverstone LC10-E for $50 so i was off to a blazing start.

Went and got an OCZ vertex 4 128 gig SSD, as SSD are apparently the best no brainer upgrade, and a new DVD drive since the old IDE one was frayed and falling to bits, and got to work reassembling.

I installed a Noctua UB9 SE2 or whatever the 92mm heatsink is due to the low clearance on the SS case and decided to put W7 on the SSD since the HDD had Xp on it.

All was going well until it had unzipped 90% of the files then crashed. And crashed
continually
5 times in a row.

i thought geez this baby is having a tough time and soon found out the bios only supports 32 bit. And apparently MSI can only upgrade bios using their program which is not of much use if i need to flash it true? Or is there a way??

Proceed to install W7 32 bit

It installed YAY! then wouldn't boot.

Then tried to turn on this morning and no picture comes onto the screen. Not even BIOS boot screen, but all power fans running etc. Is the graphics fried? Will find out tonight. If so should I find another card since i had my E6320 up at 2.8 (1ghz over the stock) with room for a bit more but never needed it.

No picture even plugging in the old HDD with Xp on it frown.gif

What is the best MOBO / CPU / GPU / RAM combo for low cost. I only need it for movies / surfing / occasional office document / and playing the odd Heroes of Newerth game. I may get Supreme commander out again but doesn't need anything over the top i would assume (probably wrong).

Was just going to upgrade the chip to a Q6600 that Shmuckley had on here but it was sold before i could grab it.

Is it a good idea to persist with this setup or just trash the board / ram / CPU and start over on some newer model stuff.

Any suggestions?

Any love is appreciated. Am open to all suggestions and advice since you can probably tell have been out of the loop for a while.

Regards

Try reseating your RAM and even CPU.

If you have enough budget to build a new rig, then go aead and buy a new rig. Partial upgradation might be a short term solution but only full upgradation is the only long term solution.

try reseating the RAM and CPU as said, if it doesnt work you could always clear the bios. i had a similar prob with a gigabyte and an e2200 and this allowed me to boot again, just check everything in bios is sweet too, ssd selected as boot etc.. dobnt give up so easy, 8800gt is still good for casual gaming and more than capable for an htpc, its what mine has smile.gif

Hi all,

thnaks for the tips. Ive had a play with it and it now goes to the BSOD!

I have the code written down at home if anyone is interested. Just taking some advice from a coulpe of people and it is probably just time to upgrade.

If anything will turn it into a blue ray player with the old HDD and use my SSD in the new system. WIll wait till haswells come out and upgrade then hopefully can get an i5 / 7950 combo for peanuts it will be more than enough for what i want to do with it.

Any suggestions for a decent MOBO / ram combo to get a little extra juice out of the i5 3570?
