Is this the worst i5 3570K you have ever seen?

Thread Starter
Hello,

I'm playing with OC settings of my CPU (not very expirienced with this) and maximum stable OC I can get is 4.2 GHz, and that is with 1.218v. (offset - 60 I think). Anything above that requires silly amount of voltage, for example, to even boot to windows at 4.5 GHz it needs about 1.350v but even at that voltage it's far from being stable. When I run prime 95 I get screen freezing after about 5 minutes. When I up the voltage to about 1.360 + it runs prime with no errors with 88 ºC on hottest core, but when I run some other applications like 3D Mark it crashes after 1st cpu test (GPU is @stock).

I'm not very comfortable with raising the voltage any more because I think even this is to much. So please, advise me what to do. Should I keep trying or be satisfied with those 4.2 GHz?

Thank you in advance.

My specs are:

run prime95 custom blend 4 cores, 1344/1344 @ 90% RAM for 20 minutes (or failure) at stock frequency. Then report back.

also you're using corsair vengeance ram, make sure you add an extra bump or 2 (+) to the rated vdimm.

also what's the batch number... those are sometimes indicative as well.

But I know your feel also, my friend's chips were pathetic. Anything made in Malaysia sucked apparently. His barely hits 4.3 and 4.5 on a D-14.

For me personally I will OC the multiplier but only to the point I do not have to raise the voltage that is where I stop but that is just me. I have mine at 4GHz on 40x multiplier and am happy with that I have not tried to push it any more than that. At that speed it does everything I need but I must admit it does not seem as fast as my FX-8120 or FX-8350 rigs at 4GHz but that may be down to the 7950 and 7970 Crossfire setups I have on those two rigs as I stupidly went with a SLI GTX 670 setup on the i5 rig.

nuttin' stupid about 2 670's @_@ feel free to donate one this way wink.gif. However, I am pretty sure clock for clock the 3570 performs at a relatively better than the 8350.

and you're so lucky to have fiber :*(
