[ITW] Ad industry threatens Firefox users with more ads if Mozilla moves on tracking plans - Page 8

Nice to see Mozilla and Microsoft on the same page.

http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-sticks-to-default-do-not-track-settings-in-ie-10-7000002289/

MS started this with IE10 a little while ago.

i have control over what i see on the internet, thanks abp thumb.gif

Ads are what enable many of the things you listed. Many things people take for granted wouldn't even be possible without such business models. The misuse or overuse is what's important. And don't blame the ad companies themselves. The content makers or providers are the ones soliciting and allowing the ads. It's a primary revenue stream for most forms of media out there.

so by that logic we should love ads? thats kind of silly i think

imagine you are searching something at work and there are porn ads on the page ... thats not cool
imagine searching for books about how to get through an abortion and then you get hit by diaper ads ... not cool either

if someone wants to block ads thats his choice, nobody is forcing anyone to use firefox and/or adblocking software

Idiots. Are they trying to get more people using ad blocking addons and such?

Theres a reason so many people have turned to them, because you got really annoying with he ads. Seriously, we know ads will be there, and lots of people support sites that manage ads to be non-intrusive and not ruin the experience of the site your visiting. I allow ads on sites like OCN for example. Not like I ever click on them (sorry) but I'll allow them to be shown.

So learn from your mistakes, not forge foolishly forward. Tone it down, don't ruin our experience or totally drive us nuts. You'll see that many people will simply forget or not bother to get ad blockers, as we won't have something bothering us enough to want to "fix" it.

I have no problems with ads.. They help me pay for my bandwidth for my site. Intrusive ads will always be bad.

You clearly didn't read the post fully. The relevant portions were even bolded.

The ad industry claims to care about the internet user. I laughed.

I just made a donation to the ABP (AdBlock Plus) team. Just recently I turned off ABP on some websites, only to find out how awful surfing the web is without ABP.

Reading this article gave me a bit of discomfort, so I decided that it is the right moment to donate to ABP. I am not someone who donates all the time, but this time I believe it was for a good cause.

Advertising companies are raking in money every day, however it is not the same for the ABP coders.
They are basically closing off the profits of the internet advertising companies, meanwhile hoping for our donations for their work.
They don't gain direct money for every ad that is blocked on our screen.
They are just a small community, but they can indeed make a difference for many of us. thumb.gif

I run adblock and ghostery on full settings for every website.

It's my choice, whether you agree with me or not.

Just like it's Mozilla's choice what they want enabled or disabled by default on their own browser.

i read it yet you did not define what misuse or overuse is, meaning i can interpret them freely: misuse: there are ads somewhere on the website, overuse: there is at least one ad on the site
