[Geek] Internet Explorer 11 will pretend it’s Firefox - Page 7

Read the title as- [Geek] Internet Explorer 11 and Firefox pretend they are as good as Chrome! wink.gif
post #62 of 81
I use Firefox and it's just a good browser, I don't want to go into details but actually the worst browser I've ever used is Chrome (Example: download manager sucks, crashes a lot) not IE.

Firefox has inconsistent memory behaviour across computers. Firefox on my home desktop uses anywhere from 30-50% less memory than my work desktop once I've opened a large number of tabs, even though the former has 2GB more RAM available. Chrome gobbles up RAM on both, and Opera... well, Opera is perfect biggrin.gif I have used Firefox for so long though that I can't stand using anything else, especially Chrome and IE.

What I've noticed is the more ram available, the more ram Firefox will use.

so a PC with 2gb of ram will have less memory eaten up than one with 4gb of ram, even with the same amount of tabs open. I think firefox caches less pages when there's less total available memory

A lot of internet related issues that clients who use IE come to me for are solved by installing firefox or chrome.

That is correct. Firefox is designed to take advantage of memory. It will read how much is available and allocate accordingly. Usage across OSes will vary as different APIs are in play. Waterfox on the other hand is 64-bit compiled which naturally will soak up more memory. Firefox itself isn't quite optimized for 64-bit.

As for this topic, its smart for Microsoft to do this. Since Chrome and Safari already does the "Like Gecko" thing to get the same compatibility, I don't see why Microsoft wouldn't want to toss its bad legacy when IE10/11 is so different from IE6/7/8.

Back in the day, they did the "Mozilla x.x" thing to get compatibility, this is no different.

Honestly, as long as they get the OK from Mozilla to do this, I don't see the problem. IE10 wasn't that bad, and for the majority of users, it's a more than capable browser. Sure there are better choices out there, but most people simply don't care. All Microsoft wants to do is better the experience for those that choose to use IE, and if this is the way they think is best, by all means, have at it

Used IE till I got smart and still do when I HAVE to. Was an avid Ff user for several years till about v5 or 6 and it went way slow down and I switched to chrome for my main browser and an happy with it. Have it as my main browser on my 4S which I like due to being able to link my home chrome to my phone chrome( lol)

Internet Explorer: Crap at its finest.
Chrome: Spyware infested but fast.
Firefox: Fast and reliable.

Firefox is the clear winner here. All this "slowdown" nonsense is just that....nonsense.

Firefox is alright, but it sure is a memory hog! I usually run my modded minecraft client, filezilla, foobar 2000, xsplit, excel, and firefox. I find that running firefox tends to lag when running minecraft. Although, I do allocate 4 gb to Minecraft, but still I have 4 gb of RAM left over.

The only reason I still use firefox, is because I have my bookmarks/websites synced to my android and I have plugins such as evernote on firefox synced to my Android.
