Random Shutdowns, Asrock Extreme6?

Thread Starter
Hello,

So I built myself a nice new PC. I have an I5 3570k, 8gb of samsung green DDR3 RAM, an MSI Twin FrozrIII 7950 and an Asrock Extreme6. All was working well until a short time after I'd started getting it up and running, it started to randomly shutdown without giving any indication it would do so. In fact, it wasn't even shutting down, it didn't display the Windows Shutdown Scene, it just powered off. I don't know what's causing it and I'd much like it to stop! :/

If anyone knows of a fix I would greatly appreciate this as I'm writing now with great haste before it powers off again! A friend reccomended using the PLL overvoltage setting in the motherboard, I found PLL voltage, but I'm not sure what to do from there on.

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me!!

EDIT:

Now after the computer crashes it doesn't reboot until after the second try, then the gpu fans spin up to 100% and the output is lost through the gpu however, if I put the output through the motherboard I can get it back, I'm so confused..

There is a chance that it's shorting out. Build it outside of your case.

I don't understand, how does building It outside the case stop it shorting out?

I don't think the case is making it short out because I can knock the case, remove the side panels and move the case without it turning off, it's just a random occurrence :s

I seem to be experiencing the same thing on my Dell XPS 1330 (2008 model). It's only started today and I was searching the web for Windows 7 updates / Norton Internet Security Patch issues. I'm running the following: Dell XPS 1330, Windows 7 SP1 64bit, 4GB RAM, Intel Core2 Duo T9500. I don't seem to get the problem (touch wood - 30 minutes so far) running in "Windows Safe Mode (with Networking)".

I found that it was shutting down (screen / hard drive) within a few seconds / minutes of logging into Windows. If I press the eject button on the touch panel, it simply flashes - no whirring of the DVD drive.

Something weird going on - issue appears to be software related, NOT hardware.

I seem to have resolved my problem:
  1. I cleaned out all of the Event Logs in the Event Viewer application.
  2. I uninstalled iTunes completely (all Apple products including Bonjour) - the issue seemed to have started after I installed an iTunes update today (v11 I think)

I then restarted in Normal mode and I'm running ok again. I was able to reproduce the problem quite easily by letting my laptop go into "Standby" mode after 15 minutes. Not game to try it just yet... I wait to see if the random reboots occur first..

Pete.

Well done on resolving your problem, mine still persists, I thought I'd solved it last night, I thought it might have been the CD Drive, though I worked out it's not. I've unplugged my GPU now and am running my PC, I'll leave it to go on for as long as it will. I've heard stories about some GPU's idling at around 80C for some reason, if mine is I can't tell because it doesn't feedback any temperature or activity information to the motherboard so I haven't got anything to go on.

If it doesn't crash now I'll RMA the gpu, it's only a few days old.
